Last week, Martin Short was getting to rub elbows alongside other A-listers at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special. This week, he picked up his first Screen Actors Guild award for his work in Only Murders in the Building.

Unfortunately, Short wasn’t actually in the building to pick up the honor. Presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid simply acknowledged that the comedian was not able to make it to the ceremony. But the reason why he couldn’t attend wasn’t due to any availability, but illness.
On Friday, actor and fellow OMITB star Steve Martin posted a picture of Short with Maya Rudolph. The two SNL alums and former co-stars of Maya and Marty were exchanging a friendly smooch in the photo. In the caption, Martin wrote, “Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real.”

Unfortunately, Martin had to then go on and announce that two upcoming dates on their comedy tour had to be rescheduled. “Unfortunately, we have to reschedule this weekend’s sold out Durham and Knoxville dates to 10/17 Knoxville and 10/18 Durham,” he wrote. “So sorry for the inconvenience. I think we’ll be funnier then, anyway.”
As Short is still recovering from COVID, he was unable to pick up his first-ever SAG Award. It remains to be seen if any other of the many attendees of the star-studded SNL affair came out of the affair with not only positive spirits, but also a positive COVID test.
