There’s a reason you’re seeing more RVs popping up on your social feeds lately. Yes, the view from the back of a camper van overlooking a turquoise lake is a perfect shot for the ‘gram, but it goes deeper than scoring the perfect photo.

With nearly 65 per cent of Canadians who planned a trip this year intent on staying in the country, more people are discovering that RVing is the best way to explore the beauty in our own backyards. And as a bonus, it allows you to bundle your transportation and accommodation costs into one!

There’s never been a better time to explore our country, and with that comes a prime opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and get to know Canada as intimately as possible.

Here are just a few of the reasons why we think people of all ages across the country should hit the road in an RV year-round.

More millennials are getting behind the wheel

It’s not like RVing is a trendy new way to travel, but if you’re picturing your parents’ wood-panelled tent camper, it’s time for a reality check.

Today’s RVs are less about rustic living and more like a condo on wheels. And while the mode of transportation is incredibly nostalgic, RVers are no longer primarily boomers. Today, nearly 40 per cent of all RVers are under 35, with the population skewing younger every year.

The fan-favourite benefits of RVing are the same as they’ve always been: connecting with nature, exploring multiple destinations, and unwinding with family and friends. Simply put, RVing will never go out of style.

Is there anything better than complete and utter freedom?

When you’re behind the wheel, you can make all the decisions. That includes travel time, pit stops, destinations, and everything in between. After all, one of the most enticing elements of RVing is getting to tailor your getaway to what you want, whether it’s a quick weekend adventure, national park tour, or classic road trip.

If you don’t know where to begin, GoRVing Canada has plenty of fantastic road trips mapped out on its website. Hit up the highlights during a five-day Ultimate Fall Bucket-List Rocky Mountain Road Trip, tour Yoho National Park at your own pace, or experience a Winter Road Trip on the Icefields Parkway across three glorious winter days. After all, there’s no need to keep the outdoor fun just in the summer when Western Canada is so gorgeous year-round.

Travel like Tim

Sometimes the hardest part of doing is starting, especially if you’re new to RVing. Luckily, social media is full of RV trip inspo — you can take a page out of Tim Spisar’s handbook.

Tim is an Alberta-based cinematographer, photographer, and content creator whose projects have taken him across the country (and the world). Two years ago, he took on the challenge of buying and restoring a 1985 camper van, merging his passion for filmmaking with the freedom of exploration and his love for travel.

“Travelling in an RV is the best type of travel,” says Tim. “Bumping music and hanging out together in an RV is so much fun. Plus, you get to be flexible with your days. I also love the idea of staying within Canada to explore this beautiful country more.”

Most recently, Tim gathered two of his buddies for a ten-day trip that would take them from Kananaskis all the way up to Mount Robson Park. The trio had so much fun that they plan to make the mountain journey an annual occurrence.

You can get a breakdown of Tim’s entire trip, along with helpful tips and tricks, by visiting the GoRVing Canada website. Or, start planning your own unique trip! There are no limits on the open road.
