Deceitful Love is an Italian romantic drama on Netflix that gives us everything we need from a sultry TV series: passion, tension, secrets—and of course, beautiful Italian vistas.

The series is a remake of the British mini-series Gold Digger and centers on the love story of Gabriella (Monica Guerritore) and Elia (Grey’s Anatomy alum Giacomo Gianniotti). Gabriella is an older, very wealthy woman who falls for a dashing younger man, but their romance immediately sparks controversy when her family finds out Elia is the same age as Gabriella’s eldest child. Her family immediately becomes suspicious that Elia is only after their mother’s money, and the series doesn’t prove them completely wrong.

Trying to understand Elia’s true motives for being with Gabriella is part of Deceitful Love‘s intrigue and why the series reached the Netflix Top 10 in the U.S. after its October debut on the streaming service. The open-ended nature of Season 1’s ending has fans wondering if there will be a second season of Deceitful Love

Here’s what we know so far about Deceitful Love Season 2.

What happened in Deceitful Love Season 1?

In Deceitful Love, Gabriella meets Elia when he crashes his car, and she stops to give him assistance. A passionate romance begins between the two despite Gabriella being significantly older than Elia, who is the age of her eldest child. Gabriella’s three adult children, Stefano, Giulia and Nico are perplexed by their mother’s budding relationship and begin to think that Elia has nefarious intentions. While all three children harbor secrets of their own, Stefano takes it upon himself to drive a wedge between Elia and Gabriella. He ultimately files legal action against Elia and the pair face off against one another in court in the series’ final episodes.

How did Deceitful Love Season 1 end?

At the end of Season 1, Gabriella does not break up with Elia, despite realizing that he has been taking advantage of her money and has a child with another woman. However, she does inform him that she’s not interested in getting married at her age. Elia accepts this declaration, promising that what he said in court about actually falling in love with Gabriella was true.

The series ends with the couple making a go of it and celebrating Gabriella’s birthday with her sons. Love wins in the end, or so we think. The ending is ambiguous as to whether Gabriella and Elia can make it work in the long run and if Gabriella is serious about remaining unmarried. So there’s certainly room for a second season.

Will there be a Deceitful Love Season 2?

Netflix has not announced plans for a Deceitful Love Season 2 and are labeling the first season a “limited series,” which implies that Gabriella and Elia’s relationship is all wrapped up. The British series that Deceitful Love is based on also only lasted one season. If Netflix and the show’s creative team decide to explore more of the story, they would be moving into uncharted territory in Season 2. With the open-ended nature of the ending, fans are certainly hoping there will be more episodes of the romance to come.

What is the Deceitful Love Season 2 release date?
