WITT and the Wellness Tourism Association (WTA) have introduced the Core Wellness Standards for Hotels, a global framework aimed at integrating wellness practices into hotel operations. The standards, developed by the WITT Standards Advisory Committee, provide measurable benchmarks for hotels to enhance their wellness offerings.

The Core Wellness Standards are based on over 100 certification criteria from WITT, organized under five main pillars: Healthy Eating, Holistic Healing, Nature, Movement, and Local Impact. These standards outline specific requirements for hotels to align with wellness-focused operations.

Under the Healthy Eating pillar, hotels are encouraged to offer nutritious meals, recommend local wellness-aligned dining options, and provide clean, filtered water. The Holistic Healing pillar focuses on maintaining a clean atmosphere, fostering restful sleep environments, and ensuring warm service.

The Nature pillar involves integrating biophilic design elements indoors and facilitating access to green spaces. The Movement pillar requires hotels to provide space and programs for physical activity. The Local Impact pillar emphasizes the use of local supplies, celebrating local culture, and environmental preservation.

The initiative addresses the issue of “wellness-washing” in the industry by providing a clear set of standards that hotels can adopt to attract wellness-focused guests. The standards aim to offer travelers confidence in independently verified wellness criteria.

The Core Wellness Standards and certification applications are now available to hotels globally. Further information can be accessed at wittcertified.com.
