‘Zelda’ 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Consoles Sell Out Everywhere, With One Exception

The special-edition Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 looks great, but don’t get too excited just yet. Pre-ordering the console is already a nightmare. The situation surrounding the Nintendo game’s foil-cover variant isn’t very heartening, either. Worst of all, if you do manage to get a pre-order, the console will be more expensive no matter where or how you buy it.

How much is the Switch 2 Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console, and how can I pre-order it?

The standard version of the new Zelda Switch 2 hardware, which releases on October 29, 2026, costs $519.99 — or $20 more than the base model.

Nintendo does not have the Zelda console in stock.

Amazon does not have the Zelda console in stock.

Target does not have the Zelda console in stock.

Best Buy does not have the console in stock.

Note that, if you do see the console up for pre-order at any of these websites, it’ll probably be even pricier than $519.99. Many major retailers allow third-party sellers to hawk their wares on their official websites, which makes it look like the company has stock of the console. If you’re feeling desperate, you can pre-order via those storefronts … just make sure to check out who you’re buying from. You’ll want to avoid any sellers who have bad ratings.

Will the Zelda Switch 2 come back in stock?

Almost certainly, but it’ll sell out immediately if that happens. Scalper Discord channels are already setting up bots to gobble up Switch 2 stock as soon as possible. Ultimately, however, we’re going into the holiday season — and Nintendo will want as many people as possible to purchase the more profitable version of its hardware.

Didn’t you say the Switch 2 was in stock somewhere?

Yes. That place is eBay. Right now, most listings for the 40th anniversary console are around $850 — over $300 more than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. If you don’t want to do the song and dance of trying to find the console the millisecond it goes live on websites like Amazon, this could be a good choice. Again, double-check sellers and their reviews. Read descriptions to make sure the reseller has an actual pre-order secured. Heck, make sure they’re actually selling the console to begin with. Scammers will sometimes try to pull a fast one by doing things like selling the box without the console.

Can I at least buy the first-print foil version of Ocarina of Time?

As of this writing, Nintendo still has the physical version of the game up for purchase here, for $69.99. Major retailers can otherwise be hit-and-miss. Walmart, for example, is already sold out of the physical version of OOT. Amazon’s pre-orders for the physical version of the game are still available right now; the same is true of Best Buy and Target. Given the hype around the game, don’t be surprised if any of these stores suddenly sell out.

What about the Switch 2 Zelda controller or carrying case?

• Nintendo has sold out of all the Zelda accessories
• Walmart has sold out of the Pro Controller, but the carrying case is still available for pre-order
• Target has sold out of the Pro Controller, but still has the carrying case
• Amazon does not have the Pro Controller or the carrying case available for purchase yet
• Best Buy lists the Pro Controller as coming soon, but the carrying case is still available

Given how quickly things move online, it doesn’t hurt to double-check major retailers. While some items are in or out of stock as of this writing, by the time you actually read this, that status might change!
