10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver on Family Day

10 February 20264 Mins Read

The first long weekend of the year is coming up in just a few short days, which means Family Day falls on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. If you’re in search of some last-minute plans that the whole family can enjoy, consider checking out some of the free and low-cost events on this list.

Here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver on Family Day this year.

The Richmond Cultural Centre and Richmond Public Library are celebrating Family Day with the 17th annual Children’s Arts Festival, which will feature tons of hands-on activities and performances for all ages, including free live music, visual arts, and drop-in friendly workshops.

When: Monday, Feb. 16, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond
Cost: Free admission

This Family Day, you can visit the Museum of Vancouver for a day of exploring various activity booths led by local artists and makers. Each booth offers a different free, all-ages activity, with the opportunity to browse and purchase handmade goods. Explore the museum’s exhibits, create something as a family, and support the local arts.

When: Monday, Feb. 16, 2026
Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: 1100 Chestnut St.

Burnaby Village Museum is offering visitors a guided tour of several exhibits and gardens this Family Day, with interpreters on site to share stories of Burnaby’s local history, food culture, and more.

Note that the full museum, cafe, and carousel will be closed on Family Day.

The Britannia Mine Museum has a special exhibit on copper contamination and how it has affected organisms at every stage of the marine food chain, from plankton to local orca populations in Howe Sound.

In addition to a 75-minute guided tour of the museum, admission includes access to this fascinating temporary exhibit, which includes a display of specimens such as a real killer whale skeleton.

When: Until Feb. 28, 2206
Time: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: 150 Copper Dr., Britannia Beach
Cost: $$24.95 to $42.95 per person

Now, a little something for the adults. The Shipyards Brewery District is throwing a special Family Day Crawl with $3 tickets, which gets you $3 off your first drink at each participating brewery, cidery, and distillery you visit. So the more spots you crawl to, the more you save!

Here are all the participating locations in the crawl:

  • Beere brewing
  • North Point Brewing
  • Streetcar Brewing
  • La Cerveceria
  • Shaketown Brewing
  • Copperpenny Distilling
  • Windfall Cider
  • Le Cafe Brocante

When: Monday, Feb. 16, 2026
Time: Noon to 9 p.m.

Just For Laughs Vancouver is turning 10 this year, and to celebrate, the iconic comedy festival has what is perhaps its most star-studded lineup yet. From David Letterman to Atsuko Okatsuka to Zach Galifianakis, there are tons of big-name comics doing sets at this year’s festival.

Presented as part of Vancouver’s annual Fan Expo, the cinematic event will be a night with the Cullens, which means Ashley Greene (“Alice”), Jackson Rathbone (“Jasper”), Kellan Lutz (“Emmett”), and Peter Facinelli (“Carlisle”) will all be in attendance for a special screening of the original Twilight film.

While usually closed on Mondays, the Steveston Tram is open to visitors this Family Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving families plenty of time to check out the famed restored tramcar. At the museum, there will be interactive displays and a mini-tram paper craft to take home, as well as souvenir photo-ops with the museum’s tram conductor dress-up costumes.
