Can you believe it’s already May? It’s time to gear up for night market season and enjoy all that the warmer weather has to offer. This week, you can catch a baseball game at the Nat, visit the recently opened Richmond Night Market, or enjoy a night of live theatre, and that’s just for starters. Here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (April 28-May 2).

Cheer on the Vancouver Canadians at the Nat as they face off against the Hillsboro Hops, with games on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

This free public market has a licensed patio and has transformed customized shipping containers into an array of rotating pop-ups, vendors, and live entertainment space. Junction Public Market will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday starting May 1, 2025.

When: Opens Thursday, May 1, 2025
Where: 200 Granville St.
Cost: Free admission

Vancouver Opera is closing its 2024-2025 season with Giacomo Puccini’s most deeply felt opera, Madama Butterfly. With stunning visuals and melodies, the timeless tale tells the story of Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese woman who marries American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton, only to face heartbreak and tragedy.

The star-studded international cast includes lead sopranos Yasko Sato and Karen Chia-Ling Ho, and a creative team that brings this emotionally charged opera to life right here in Vancouver.

When: Saturday, April 26, 2025 to Sunday, May 4, 2025 on weekends and Thursday, May 1, 2025

Raveena is a singer-songwriter known for integrating R&B and her Indian heritage in her music, and she’s bringing her Where the Butterflies Tour to Vancouver on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Cost: $44.50

Vancouver Civic Theatres presents a free Visual Arts Open House in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre this week. And the current exhibition features work by Marisa Mary Myrah and Yasmeen Strang, including a 6:30 p.m. artist talk and a musical performance throughout the evening by Ivan Hartle.

Directed by Andrew Kushnir, the story of Casey and Diana by Nick Green is coming to the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage from the end of April through Sunday, May 25, 2025. Based on true events, the powerful drama is set in 1991 during the peak of the AIDS crisis, when Diana, Princess of Wales, makes a historic visit to Casey House, Canada’s first freestanding AIDS hospice.

The beloved Richmond Night Market is in its 25th year, so its 2025 iteration will be a major one. With hundreds of international culinary creations waiting for you and over 100 retail booths, the Richmond Night Market is the ultimate place for foodies to support local during the warmer months, and try new cuisines while they’re at it.

This year will also feature a zipline — the first of its kind at any night market.

When: Opens Friday, April 25, 2025

Cost: $7 for GA

This Mother’s Day, Metropolis at Metrotown is hosting moms, mom figures, and their families to discover the joys of Mother Nature via the Met’s annual “We Love Moms & Mother Nature” series. From an indoor glampsite to a Mother’s Day party in the Grand Court, this is a great chance to spend some quality time with loved ones and get a bit of shopping done at B.C.’s largest shopping centre.

Another cool art exhibit to check out is at The Polygon Gallery, called Tranquillity of Communion, a landmark exhibition of the late British-Nigerian photographer Rotimi Fani-Kayode’s work. The Canadian premiere brings together Fani-Kayode’s beloved photographs alongside archival prints and unseen works.

Capture Photography Festival is Western Canada’s largest lens-based art fest, and there are exhibits across Metro Vancouver’s galleries to check out, in addition to a robust Public Art Program, until Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
