We’re coming up on the last week of August, which means now is the time to check out all of the night markets, outdoor movies, free pop-up concerts, and plaza fun as you can. From a beachside night market to The Lion King, to Canada’s largest Brazilian cultural festival, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (Aug. 25-29).

It’s the 10th anniversary of Canada’s largest outdoor movie series, AKA Evo Summer Cinema. This week, they’re screening The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with free, first-come, first-served seating available at Second Beach.

When: Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025
Time: 8:45 to 10:45 p.m.
Where: Second Beach
Cost: Free, or $28.77 for VIP seating

Vancouver’s first and only beach market is back for another round of food trucks, restaurant pop-ups, sunset yoga, sound baths, live music, and more.

When: Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025
Time: 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Locarno Beach
Cost: Free admission

Broadway Across Canada has officially brought The Lion King production to Vancouver, and you don’t want to miss out on the incredible artistry, from the costumes to the unforgettable music. The Tony Award-winning musical features some of Broadway’s most recognizable songs and choreography, and now is your chance to see it all come to life onstage in Vancouver.

The Mount Pleasant BIA has been the busiest bee this summer, organizing tons of free and accessible community-wide events ranging from street festivals to pop-up wine bars. This week, there are a couple of free concerts to check out at two Main Street plazas: Luc Lemans at Main and 14th on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and Thalia Malcolm at 21st and Main on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

Both concerts will commence at 5 p.m. at their respective plazas.

North Van’s Deckchair Cinema is screening Dune by David Lynch (1984), which will start at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

Cap off your week with a couple of free outdoor concerts in North Van at the Live and Local Summer Concert Series. This week, you can check out Bakara Band (Persian pop) performing at Lions Gate Village on Thursday, Aug. 28 and Robin Layne & the Rhythm Makers at Ray Perrault Park (on Grand Boulevard) on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025.

When: Thursday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 29, 2025
Time: 7 to 9 p.m.
Where: Outdoor locations across North Vancouver
Cost: Free admission

It’s your last chance to catch an outdoor movie on Grouse Mountain this Thursday! Grab your outdoor blankets and cozy layers and get ready to enjoy what is sure to be a stunning sunset. This week, mountain-goers can catch Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Movies are screened at the Birds in Motion Viewing Area at sunset, with The Rusty Rail open to diners until 9 p.m.

Cost: $29 per person for Sunset Special Ticket

The 2025 Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is in full swing, and you can check out one of four iconic productions: Much Ado About Nothing, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again], and The Dark Lady.

When: Until Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: 1695 Whyte Ave.
Cost: $35 to $88 per person

The end of the week marks the start of Canada’s largest Brazilian cultural celebration! With live music on both days, authentic street food, and even a mini Carnaval celebration, this festival is jam-packed with the flavours, sounds, and great vibes of Vancouver’s Brazilian community, and all are invited to experience it.

When: Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025
Time: 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday
Where: 770 Pacific Blvd. 
Cost: $75 for Friday, $15 for Saturday, and $85 for two days

The beloved Shipyards Night Market is back every Friday until September, providing the perfect opportunity to hit some patios or breweries after work, enjoy some live music, and snag some food truck eats at Shipbuilders Square.

When: Every Friday until Sept. 12, 2025
Time: 3 to 10 p.m.
Where: The Shipyards, North Vancouver
Cost: Free admission
