The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it’s finally the weekend.

After many days of rain, the weekend is shaping up to have some good weather. In light of the sun finally coming back out, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best and most exciting things to do in Edmonton this weekend, so let’s take a peek.

Alberta on the Plate is a province-wide festival celebrating the incredible food and local produce the region has to offer. The festival hosts a Dine Around, where participating restaurants offer multi-course, fixed-price menus highlighting the food that makes this province shine.

This weekend marks the end of Alberta on the Plate for 2025, so don’t miss out.

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, to Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025

It’s finally time: the Edmonton Fringe Fest is in full swing.

For 11 days this August, guests are invited to watch and enjoy live theatre, outdoor performances, indulge in food and drinks on the festival grounds, and truly embrace the rich and diverse arts and theatre scene the city has created.

When: Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, to Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025
Where: Old Strathcona and other various locations

Every so often, the Telus World of Science will hold its dazzling Summer Laser Shows. While sitting in the Zeidler Dome, your eyes will feast upon the beauty of the light show created in-house. Some of the upcoming featured themes are Laser Taylor Swift, Laser ABBA, and Laser The Weeknd.

When: Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, to Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025
Where: Zeidler Dome — 11211 142nd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.

This exclusive after-hours look at the Muttart is for 18-year-olds and above, creating a sophisticated ambience. Guests are invited to roam around the Muttart and take a look at its featured pyramids while being offered a tasting experience featuring the exceptional brews of Sea Change Brewing Co.

Tickets to this event include two drink tickets for beer, booze, soda, or a non-alcoholic option, as well as light canapés.

The Edmonton Dragon Festival is a premier cultural and sporting event which focuses on celebrating the rich traditions of dragon boating, lion dancing, and Asian heritage in the heart of Edmonton. This weekend, the festival will kick off with its vibrant opening ceremony and cultural celebrations.

When: Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, to Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025
Where: Edmonton Chinatown and River Valley

Afro Music Fest is not just about music; it’s Edmonton’s signature celebration of Afro-Caribbean food, culture, and community. In downtown Edmonton, the festival features a free jam day and evening concerts.

Headlining Afro Music Fest this year is global superstar and Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Davido.

When: Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, to Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025

Swifties Under the Sky is Western Canada’s largest outdoor celebration dedicated to everything Taylor Swift.

Fans, or Swifities, are invited to Re/Max Field to dance to special guest DJs, watch live dance performances, go shopping, and enjoy a variety of activities. To finish off the night, fireworks will light up the sky, and if you call yourself a Swiftie, you have to stop by.

When: Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025
Where: Re/Max Field — 10233 96th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Cost: $50+

Throughout the summer, the historical Rutherford House invites guests in to experience the magic of the past. This weekend, guests who drop in can learn more about the Rutherford family’s love of all things literary. Guests can try their hand at using old-fashioned pens and ink to write a letter to send to a loved one.

When: Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 and Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025
Where: Rutherford House — 11153 Saskatchewan Dr., Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 1 to 4 p.m.
Cost: Free with regular admission

The American rock band Everclear is hitting the stage for an electrifying adults-only evening filled with unforgettable vibes, legendary hits, and featured special guests.

When: Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025
Where: ICE District Fan Park — 10104 104th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., Concert starts at 7 p.m.
Cost: $75.65+

The Servus Edmonton Marathon is a flat and fast course travelling through historic neighbourhoods, the heart of downtown, and overlooking the beautiful River Valley. Those running can qualify for the Boston Marathon through this course.

Online registration is closed for runners, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cheer them on from the sidelines.

When: Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025
Where: Edmonton Convention Centre — 9797 Jasper Ave., Edmonton, Alta.
Time: Start time at 7 a.m.
Cost: Varies for registration
