Ready for another weekend of endless fun?

There’s no shortage of events in Edmonton in August. From basketball games to musical festivals, we’ve put together a list of some of the best things to do both in and out of the city this weekend.

It’s finally that time of year, the famous Edmonton Folk Fest returns this weekend. Starting Thursday and ending Sunday, this four-day festival is filled with performances by countless talented folk artists, local food vendors, and an artisan market full of fun goods.

All tickets are currently sold out, but keep an eye on the official ticket exchange for last-minute tickets.

When: Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, to Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: Gallagher Park — 9505 96th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: Various times
Cost: $42+

In this adults-only special event, guests are invited into the TELUS World of Science’s immersive exhibition, which combines good drinks with a good time.

Admission to this event includes full access to the World of Science’s Stardust: The Universe in You exhibition, the hands-on Health Zone gallery, and a special screening of The Sky Tonight in the Zeidler Dome, with screenings at 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025
Where: TELUS World of Science — 11211 142nd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Cost: $18.95

Alberta on the Plate is a province-wide festival celebrating the incredible food and local produce the region has to offer. Starting this weekend, Alberta on the Plate will be hosting a Dine Around, where participating restaurants offer multi-course, fixed-price menus highlighting the food that makes this province shine.

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 to Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025
Where: Various locations
Cost: Varies

The Edmonton Stingers are Edmonton’s professional basketball team, competing within the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

Two home games are being held this weekend at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. On Friday, they face off against the Niagara River Lions, and on Sunday, they’ll be on the court against the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 and Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: Edmonton EXPO Centre — 7515 118th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 7 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Sunday

Animethon is Edmonton’s annual Japanese Animation (anime) themed festival. Each year, the festival holds several events like their Cosplay Contests, guest programming with special VIP’s, and a hall full of vendors and gaming booths to check out.

Where: Edmonton Convention Centre — 9797 Jasper Ave., Edmonton, Alta.

Returning for another year of flaming grills is the St. Albert Rib Fest.

Billy Bones BBQ, Blazing BBQ, and Buckeye BBQ will all be participating, selling their famous barbecue to the masses. This event isn’t complete without live music, with headlining acts being Mourning Wood and the Party Darts.

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 to Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: Century Casino — 24 Boudreau Rd., St. Albert, Alta.
Time: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday

For three days, the heart of Edmonton will be filled with rich Caribbean culture, infectious music, and energetic performances.

Cariwest 2025 brings Edmonton’s largest summer parade, a 2-kilometre route through downtown Edmonton and ending in Sir Winston Churchill Square, where a party awaits!

When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 to Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: Sir Winston Churchill Square — 100th Street NW, Edmonton, Alta.

Cost: Free

One Saturday each month of the summer, Alberta Food Tours hosts a Savour Strathcona Food Tour.

This guided tour takes participants through the vibrant Old Strathcona neighbourhood, making five stops at different restaurants to eat while learning about the behind-the-scenes stories of the local food scene, history, art, and architecture.

When: Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025
Where: MEAT — 8216 104th St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 11 a.m.
Cost: $125

Malla Market is the girliest market you’ll find in Edmonton. With over 35 vendors daily, this market will be taking over Kingsway Mall for two days of community, feel-good finds, and the cutest social club around town.

When: Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025 and Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: Kingsway Mall — 109 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday
Cost: Free

This vintage market features over 50 vendors. There isn’t just fashionable vintage wear, but cute accessories, tooth gems, live entertainment, and even giveaways to guests.

This Sunday market marks their last outdoor market event for this year and their biggest by far.

When: Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025
Where: West Block Glenora — 14101 West Block Dr. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Cost: Free
