Violet Evergarden has little direct overlap with Frieren, but it similarly follows an emotionally detached female protagonist on a journey of self-discovery. Set after the Great War in the land of Telesis, the 13-episode anime centers on a young woman who was raised to be a ruthless weapon. After losing both arms in the final battle, Violet receives prosthetics and begins writing letters for clients as an Auto Memory Doll, essentially a professional ghostwriter. A single look at the white-haired wandering mage Elaina makes the parallels between Frieren and Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina apparent. Elaina takes to the road after growing up with folk stories about the globe-trotting witch Niké.
