11 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this weekend (May 9-11)

The weekend might bring a mix of weather conditions, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of reasons to plan a day or night on the town. James Bay is bringing his Up All Night Tour to the city, North America’s largest Hong Kong Festival is on, and there are plenty of night markets and shows to check out in between. Here are 11 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this weekend (May 9-11).

Known for hits like “Let It Go,” “Hold Back the River,” and “Us,” English singer-songwriter and guitarist James Bay is bringing his Up All Night Tour to the Commodore this May.

When: Saturday, May 10, 2025
Where: 868 Granville St.
Cost: $160.29+

As the first “Hong Konger cultural celebration in Canada,” the annual fair commemorates the heritage and creativity of the Hong Konger community and their journey to Canada. Run by a volunteer collective called HK House, the event has become the largest of its kind in North America, bringing together artisans, cultural performers, street food stalls, and games for a full day of fun and learning.

When: Sunday, May 11, 2025
Where: 125 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver
Cost: $3.50 for cultural market entry

The party is back! Celebrate the 102nd May Days in Port Coquitlam, which kicks off on May 5, 2025 and culminates with a larger celebration this weekend on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with an exciting Kids’ Bike Race, Rotary May Day Parade, and a Party in the Square along with the May Days Market. The latter will feature incredible live music, tasty food trucks, fun games, and more.

Below is the schedule for Saturday’s festivities:

  • 10 a.m. – Kids’ Bike Race
  • 11 a.m. – Rotary Parade
  • Noon – Kids’ Stage
  • 1 p.m. – Party in the Square

This Mother’s Day weekend, the Vancouver Aquarium is celebrating with an exclusive, adults-only fine dining experience. Diners will be treated to a chef-curated menu all the while surrounded by the beautiful underwater exhibits and immersive galleries.

When: Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, 2025

Cost: $120 to $150 per table

This Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Whitecaps are facing off against the L.A. Football Club. So don your blue and white and get ready to cheer them on at BC Place.

The beloved Shipyards Night Market will be back every Friday starting May 16, 2025, with a delicious array of food truck eats, live DJ sets, and a beer garden. Each night market will take place from 3 to 10 p.m. at Shipbuilders Square.

When: Every Friday from May 16 to September 12, 2025
Where: 19 Wallace Mews, North Vancouver
Cost: Free admission

Directed by Andrew Kushnir, the story of Casey and Diana by Nick Green is coming to the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage from the end of April through Sunday, May 25, 2025. Based on true events, the powerful drama is set in 1991 during the peak of the AIDS crisis, when Diana, Princess of Wales, makes a historic visit to Casey House, Canada’s first freestanding AIDS hospice.

When: Now until Sunday, May 25, 2025

Running Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until October, the Richmond Night Market is officially in full swing, with hundreds of street food vendors and retail booths to discover. There’s also a first-of-its-kind zipline that visitors can ride over the market.

Cost: $7 for GA

The Improv Centre has a new comedy show featuring one lucky improviser looking for love. Inspired by the hit reality series The Bachelor, the show is created entirely by suggestions from the audience, meaning no two nights will be the same.

When: Fridays and Saturdays from Thursday, April 17, to May 31, 2025
Where: 1502 Duranleau St.
Cost: $35 per person

From Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can check out MONOVA’s rich museum collection, Echoes of Memory, which weaves together over 100 pieces telling untold stories of aging and memory loss and the power of community in the human experience.

When: Wednesday to Sunday until June 2025
Where: 115 Esplanade West, North Vancouver
Cost: Free with museum admission
