Over the last two decades, movie-goers have been treated to a fair share of incredible thrillers. Collider recently shared a list of the top 10 “most perfect thrillers” released after 2006. According to the publication, some of the most nail-biting films since 2006 include 2010’s Shutter Island, The Dark Knight from 2008, 2014’s Gone Girl, and Parasite from 2019.
2019’s Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, took home the list’s top spot. Collider noted that the film, directed by brothers Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie, is almost unpleasant because of how stressful it is to watch Howard make all the wrong decisions during its 135-minute runtime.
Uncut Gems has a rating of 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Adam Sandler Shared How He Joined the Cast of ‘Uncut Gems’
In a 2019 interview with MTV, alongside Sandler, the Safdie brothers revealed they had approached the actor to star in Uncut Gems in 2012.
“In 2012, we sent the script over to him and then eventually he saw Good Time and immediately reached out to us, which was surreal,” said Josh during the interview.
Sandler also said he was interested in playing Howard once he saw the Safdies’ films. In addition, Sandler said he and his wife, Jackie Sandler, were immediately blown away when they read the script for Uncut Gems.
“I was like, ‘Man, this is just something I have to do.’ My wife read it too and she was like, “My God, these guys are incredible. You got to be a part of this.” So you know, she helped me get more courage to jump into this character,” said the formerSaturday Night Live star.
Sandler clarified that he was not afraid to take on the role of the jeweler. Rather, he wasn’t used to starring in films that aren’t light-hearted comedies.
“It’s not a light, fun comedy that I love doing. My intentions on my movies are to just be – have a good time, make sure everyone’s laughing, walking out of the theater happy. When I was doing this movie, I just was just having to concentrate on a whole other part of my head,” said Sandler during the MTV interview.
