’28 Years Later’ Will Stream on Netflix in 2025 (And Probably In Time for Halloween)

28 Years Later (2025) Directed By Danny Boyle And Starring Jack O’Connell And Aaron Taylor Johnson. Survivors Of The Rage Virus Live On A Quarantined Island, But A Dangerous Mission To The Mainland Uncovers New Horrors And Secrets In This Gripping Post A

In what may be Sony Pictures’ most anticipated release of 2025, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are teaming up for what is going to be the first of a new trilogy of movies following 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Titled 28 Years Later, the new film brings together an all-star cast and is set to hit theaters globally on June 20th. Will the film also be available on Netflix? Depending on where you live, the answer is yes, and for some, you’ll even get to watch it later this year.

Featuring an ensemble cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes, the new, frantic post-apocalyptic movie follows the events of the first film, albeit after a considerable amount of time has passed. While Europe is mostly free of the Rage virus, the same can’t be said for Britain. Our story follows a man and a young boy who venture to the mainland as part of a coming-of-age ceremony.

Thanks to some genius trailers and alluring teases, the R-rated horror from the two legends of the industry has been hotly anticipated. It’s the first time we’ve returned to this franchise in 20 years, and looking at the reviews, it’s been more than worth the wait. Big and small outlets alike are fans with the New York Times calling it “a classic boys-into-men coming-of-age story updated for the postapocalypse.” The Film Stage was equally positive, saying, “It’s a case where Boyle’s frenetic energy, paired with returning writer Alex Garland’s structurally odd screenplay, creates a film that one never feels a step ahead of–a deep compliment for something about to be unleashed on multiplexes.”

When will 28 Years Later be on Netflix US?

We’ll begin with Netflix US, as that’s where we absolutely know that Netflix will be carrying the movie later this year. The reason we know that is because Netflix holds the first-window rights to all movies from Sony Pictures and its subsidiaries from 2022 through to at least 2027.

As we’ve seen over the past few years, films typically arrive on Netflix roughly 120 days (about four months) after their initial theatrical debut. However, there are instances where this has occurred much sooner or even cases where it has happened later. If 28 Years Later follows the 120-day rule, we can expect the movie to drop on October 18th, 2025, which is just ahead of Halloween. If the movie vastly overperforms at the box office, it might be a few weeks later.

Once available on Netflix, it’ll then stream exclusively there for 18 months before the movie is made available on Disney platforms. That’ll be sometime in mid-2027.

When will 28 Years Later be on Netflix in international regions?

When Sony Pictures movies become available on Netflix depends on where you live, as the distributor holds different agreements with Netflix.

Netflix India is the only other major country that carries Sony Pictures movies for the first window, so expect the movie sometime in October or November 2025.

Some European regions, such as Germany and the Netherlands, as well as South Africa and South Korea, are now acquiring Sony movies a few months after the US release, so expect a very late 2025 or early 2026 release date in these regions.

Netflix Australia gets its titles around a year or two after release, so expect them sometime in mid-2026. Netflix in the United Kingdom carries the second window after NowTV/Sky gets the first window rights, so expect the movie to land when it leaves there.

Everyone else will have to wait between 2027 and beyond to stream 28 Years Later on Netflix; by that point, it’s probably worth considering an alternative provider if you’re desperate.
