5 outdoor movie nights in and around Edmonton coming up this season

14 July 20263 Mins Read

Outdoor movies don’t come around often, especially in Edmonton. Good news, though! With summer in full swing and the weather cooperating just a tad, there’s a bunch of outdoor movie nights coming up for you to enjoy.

Whether it’s a scary, spooky flick you’re looking to enjoy or something that the entire family can be a part of, there are a couple of options for you to choose from. No matter what you pick, however, a good time is guaranteed.

Let’s jump straight into the movie nights coming up in Alberta.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you’re in a real-life Jaws movie, this is your chance. Jaws at the Lake is coming to Sylvan Lake this summer, bringing an outdoor screening of the classic film right to the water. As the sun starts to set, a massive movie screen takes over the beach, and you’ll find people setting up blankets and lawn chairs or floating on the water, all trying to get the best view before the movie starts.

When: Saturday, July 18, 2026
Time: 9 p.m.
Where: Lakefront Park, Sylvan Lake, Alta.
Cost: Free

Just west of Edmonton is Stony Plain, and they’re showing off Smurfs this summer. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets because they’re bringing the magic of the forest to the big screen under the stars.

When: Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 5100 41st Ave., Stony Plain, Alta.
Cost: Free

With free admission, you can head out to the Century Mile Casino just near the airport to watch a movie on the last Saturday of these summer months. Suitable for all ages; this night is going to be great for the entire family.

When: Wednesday, July 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026
Time: 7 p.m.
Where: 4711 Airport Perimeter Rd., Edmonton International Airport, Alta.
Cost: Free

This movie night is going to be a double feature, meaning a G-rated movie will play first, followed by a PG-rated pick for those looking for a bit more action. Get excited, though, as the Kin-D Thai food truck, coffee from The Colombian, the Yelo-d Ice Cream Truck, and a concession stand with all your classic movie-night treats will be making appearances.

When: Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026
Time: 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Where: 8440 105th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: Free

Bring the whole family, pack some snacks and your lawn chairs for an unforgettable outdoor movie experience. This popular event is said to bring in close to 1,000 attendees, so it’s recommended to arrive early to grab a great spot.

When: Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026
Time: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.
Cost: Free
