6 Upcoming Steam Games That Need To Be on Your Wishlist

4 September 20264 Mins Read

Wishlister is a weekly newsletter bringing you a curated list of upcoming Steam games worth adding to your wishlist, sent on Tuesdays and published on the site on Fridays. You can subscribe here.

As a site that spends all day covering new games, we know all too well that there’s simply too much to keep up with. Tons of exciting games are announced every day, whether it be in social media posts that get buried by the algorithm or in showcases so loaded with content that it’s easy to forget what you just saw by the end. We wanted to help, so we made Wishlister: a weekly newsletter highlighting upcoming games that belong on your Steam wishlist.

And what a week to launch, because a very busy Gamescom just wrapped up over in Germany. The show featured tons of new games, many of which debuted on streams like Opening Night Live and Future Games Show. There were plenty of gems hidden throughout the event, so we had no shortage of games to put on your radar this week. There’s plenty more to dig through, so make sure to subscribe to Wishlister if you want a weekly refresher on what’s on the horizon.

1

Pony Island 2: Panda Circus

In 2021, developer Daniel Mullins had a breakthrough moment with the surreal Inscryption. Mainstream success hasn’t seemed to dull Mullins’ creativity, because his next game looks even weirder. Described as a “phantasmagorical voyage through time, myth, divinity, and video games,” Pony Island 2: Panda Circus is an unclassifiable game that you just need to see for yourself. All I can say for sure is that I need to play it.

Acornia: Mirror Worlds

Splashteam, the developers behind the excellent Pikmin homage Tinykin, is back with an eye-catching follow-up. Acornia: Mirror Worlds is part action game, part card collector, part… bakery management sim? Its delightful reveal trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live’s preshow teased a genre-hopping adventure about an adorable little squirrel named Alva who attacks with projectiles stored in her cheeks.

Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern

Plenty of Dungeons & Dragons games ask you to kill waves of enemies, but how many are focused entirely on the downtime between battles? Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern sees that potential, and is turning it into a cozy tavern management sim where you make life more comfortable for weary adventurers in need of a break.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks

The classic RollerCoaster Tycoon series is making a comeback with a new mainline installment, and there’s good reason to keep your eye on it. RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks is being developed by Springloaded, the team behind Let’s Build a Zoo. If you’re not familiar with Springloaded’s work, know that their brand of humor and systems-heavy management is a perfect fit for the amusement park series.

Murals

After knocking it out of the park with Disney Illusion Island, developer Dlala Studios is creating its own original game. Murals is a hack-and-slash action game set in a fantasy world where familiar fairytales have been twisted. The game’s debut trailer shows some isometric action painted in Dlala’s typically illustrative art style. It’s a welcome evolution for a studio that has proven itself working on existing IP.

Lego Skylines

Lego Skylines is one of those billion dollar ideas that feels like it should have existed a dozen times already. It’s a city-builder where you can create a world out of Lego bricks. It looks like a more approachable entry point into a tricky genre, but one that will still have the systems and depth of the Cities: Skylines series that it’s spun off from. After watching the trailer, you’ll wish that you could reach into the screen and touch all those perfectly rendered Legos.
