The Rolling Stones are climbing the U.S. music charts again, more than six decades after the British rock band scored its first No. 1 hit with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
The band’s new studio album, Foreign Tongues, debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, giving the legendary group its 39th top 10 album on the chart. The result also extends the Rolling Stones’ record for the most Billboard 200 top 10 albums since the chart began publishing regularly in 1956.
But the band reached an even bigger milestone on another Billboard chart.
Foreign Tongues opened at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, marking the Rolling Stones’ first-ever No. 1 on the sales-only ranking. The chart counts physical album purchases and digital album downloads.
The achievement comes 61 years after “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” first reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 10, 1965. The song had debuted on the Hot 100 on June 12, 1965, beginning a chart history that would eventually include eight No. 1 hits and 23 top 10 songs for the band.

The new album’s chart performance shows that the Rolling Stones remain a major force in music, even after more than 60 years in the business.
Rolling Stones Score First No. 1 on Top Album Sales
According to the chart information provided by Billboard, Foreign Tongues sold nearly 49,000 copies in its first week. The total included vinyl records, CDs and digital downloads.
That was enough for the album to lead the Top Album Sales chart, giving the Rolling Stones their first No. 1 on the list. The chart has tracked pure album sales since May 1991.
The band has released more than two dozen studio albums during its long career. Its latest project is also making an impact across several other U.S. album charts.
Foreign Tongues reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200, No. 2 on Top Rock Albums, No. 3 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums, No. 3 on Vinyl Albums and No. 3 on Indie Store Album Sales.
The Billboard 200 debut also added another record to the band’s long list of achievements. With 39 top 10 albums, the Rolling Stones continue to hold the record for the most Billboard 200 top 10s. Barbra Streisand follows with 34, while Frank Sinatra has 33.
The Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales measure different things. The Billboard 200 combines album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units, while Top Album Sales focuses only on album purchases.
That difference helps explain why Foreign Tongues could reach No. 1 on the sales chart while debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.
The album was released on July 10, 2026, and is the Rolling Stones’ latest studio project following 2023’s Hackney Diamonds. It was produced by Andrew Watt and includes contributions from musicians such as Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith, Bruno Mars and Chad Smith.
The album also includes a recording featuring the late Charlie Watts, who recorded the material with the band during a 2021 Los Angeles session before his death.
Rolling Stones Billboard Chart History Continues
The new chart success adds another chapter to a career that began in 1962.
The Rolling Stones first became major stars during the British Invasion in the 1960s. Their early success included songs such as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Get Off of My Cloud” and “Paint It, Black.”
“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” became the band’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965. The group later returned to the top of the chart with “Get Off Of My Cloud,” “Paint It, Black,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Ruby Tuesday,” “Brown Sugar,” “Angie” and “Miss You.”
The band’s most recent Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 was “Miss You,” which spent one week at the top in 1978. The Rolling Stones have since continued to place songs on the Hot 100, including “Start Me Up,” which peaked at No. 2 in 1981.
The group’s current lineup includes Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. The band continued as a three-piece core after the death of Watts in 2021, with Steve Jordan serving as its regular drummer.
Foreign Tongues also continues a late-career run that includes Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first new album of original material in 18 years. Released in 2023, that album became the Rolling Stones’ 14th No. 1 album in the United Kingdom.
For a band that first topped the Hot 100 in 1965, the latest Billboard success shows that the Rolling Stones are still selling albums and reaching new chart milestones in 2026.
