‘80s ‘Flashdance’ Icon Jennifer Beals, 61, Is Ageless in New Travel Snap

24 September 20253 Mins Read

Jennifer Beals is as beautiful as ever.

The actress, 61, who rose to superstardom as an aspiring dancer who spends her days working in a steel mill in the iconic ’80s movie Flashdance, doesn’t look all that different from how she did in the classic 1983 flick. Snapping a photo of herself while traveling in Wales, the brunette beauty smiled brightly as she stood in a sunlit field with the mountains and trees of the country cascading behind her. With her tousled hair flying in the wind, the stunner’s look was reminiscent of her days in Flashdance when her curls waved in the air as she danced to the synth-pop classic “Maniac.”

“Hello Wales, lover of magical consonants! It’s been decades since I’ve been to your green fields-they are as lovely as ever. Thank you for a wonderful journey!” she captioned the photo carousel, concluding with “Cael diwrnod gwych,” which translates to “Have a great day!”

The Post-Flashdance Years

Beals returned to college at Yale after Flashdance and was out of the spotlight for several years. However, she resurfaced in several indie flicks and eventually became a cult favorite character for her role as Bette Porter, the brilliant lesbian art expert, on Showtime’s The L Word, which ran from 2004 to 2009. She even reprised her role on the series reboot, The L Word: Generation Q, which ran from 2019 to 2023.

Earlier this year, Beals created The L Word: A Photographic Journal as a way to honor the show’s memory and its wild fandom. An avid photographer, the project originally started as a personal gift for the cast and crew. However, she soon realized the fans would go wild for it.

“It’s a way to hold onto a moment in time that was incredibly special,” she told Us Weekly, calling the book “a love letter to the cast, the crew, and the fans who made The L Word what it was. It’s about remembering the joy and connection we all felt.”

What’s Next for Jennifer Beals?

Word is that Beals recently wrapped production in Philadelphia on Joy Will Prevail, a period drama about the final three years in the life of architect Louis Kahn, Deadline reported last month. Written and directed by Max Korman in his feature debut, the film stars Hollywood legend Griffin Dunne as Kahn alongside Alexis Bledel, Ben Rosenfield, and Molly Ephraim. Beals plays Kahn’s wife in the film, which is set in the early 1970s.
