'80s Pop Icon, 72, Honors Ozzy Osbourne With Emotional Tribute Hours After His Death

23 July 20252 Mins Read

The music world is mourning the death of Ozzy Osbourne, and several legendary performers have paid tribute to the heavy metal icon, including Cyndi Lauper.

The ‘80s star performed in Raleigh, North Carolina, on July 22, just hours after news of Osbourne’s death broke. During her set, she led the crowd in a sing-along of one of Black Sabbath’s biggest hits, “Crazy Train.”

Before launching into her classic “Time After Time,” Lauper grabbed her iPhone and pulled up the track. The video shared by a fan on YouTube showed her holding her phone to the microphone as she began singing, and before long the crowd joined in. The “Good Enough” singer didn’t play the full song, but she made it through the first chorus before raising her phone in the air and declaring, “For Ozzy.”

Osbourne’s death on July 22 shocked fans around the world. Less than three weeks earlier, he had performed at his final farewell concert in Birmingham, U.K., alongside the original members of Black Sabbath.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” Osbourne’s family announced in a statement.

While no official cause of death has been released yet, Osbourne has been open about his battle with Parkinson’s disease since 2019. Earlier this year, his wife, Sharon Osbourne, revealed the “War Pigs” rocker was eager to return to the stage despite his ongoing health struggles.

“He’s very happy to be coming back and very emotional about this,” she told The Sun in an interview published on February 5. “Parkinson’s is a progressive disease. It’s not something you can stabilize. It affects different parts of the body and it’s affected his legs. But his voice is as good as it’s ever been.”
