'90s Rock Pioneer Mourns Loss of Brian Wilson in Touching Tribute Video

12 June 20252 Mins Read

The entire music industry has been mourning the loss of Brian Wilson since yesterday. Tons of figures throughout all genres of music have come out to speak on Wilson’s influence. The man was a massive part of music, writing some of the most important songs in the history of music, including the incredible “God Only Knows,” arguably one of the greatest love songs ever written. Wilson meant a lot to a whole lot of people, one of those being The Smashing Pumpkins lead singer, Billy Corgan.

Corgan rose to prominence with the Smashing Pumpkins through their unique, genre-blending sound. The band combined influences of grunge, hard rock, punk, metal, pop, shoegaze, and so much more to create an instantly recognizable sound.

Their music is littered with experimentation and unique sounds. It’s clear to see why Corgan admired Wilson so much. He showed his admiration for the late icon by posting a tribute video on his social media.

In speaking of Wilson, Corgan nailed how most of the world is feeling, saying, “… a total loss to American culture. I got to meet Brian once, which was a great honor, and of course, recently, I got to interview his daughter, Carnie, on my podcast, and she spoke so beautifully about her father, so, if you get a chance, sometime, watch that. I’m not trying to hype anything, I’m just trying to say, the way she expressed her love and admiration for her father I think is what so many of us feel.”

Fans shared in Corgan’s admiration, leaving their reactions and thoughts on Wilson in the comments.

“God only knows where we’d be without him.”
