IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its seventh hotel in Montenegro, Crowne Plaza Podgorica. This is the second property in the capital city by IHG and is expected to open by the end of 2024. The hotel’s owner is BIG CEE.
The hotel, featuring 122 rooms, is located within the Capital Plaza mixed-use development, which is surrounded by several banks and multinational companies such as Deloitte, PWC, and The World Bank. The Capital Plaza also houses residential properties and commercial spaces, including retail and restaurant areas.
The Crowne Plaza Podgorica will offer several meeting and event spaces, a main restaurant on the first floor and a bar and lounge on the ground and fifth floors, respectively.
This hotel will join the 93-room Crowne Plaza Kolasin, set to open in the second half of 2025, as part of IHG’s expansion in Montenegro. Crowne Plaza is a premium hotel brand offering flexible work, meetings, and relaxation spaces. The brand’s portfolio will reach 100 European open hotels by 2025.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President of Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the new signing and its continuing growth in the Balkans. Lev Weiss, CEO of BIG CEE, highlighted the transformation of the Montenegrin capital’s business image through properties like The Capital Plaza and welcomed the partnership with IHG.
IHG currently operates two hotels in Montenegro: Regent Porto Montenegro and voco Podgorica, and one Iberostar Waves Herceg Novi. Crowne Plaza Podgorica is part of a pipeline of three other properties expected to open in the next 3-5 years in the country, including InterContinental Resort Cjan, Crowne Plaza Kolasin, and Holiday Inn Mojkovac. The Crowne Plaza brand is also developing 19 other properties across Europe, and 146 globally.
