Play Synopsis:
Bonnie and Brad are throwing a party to pay for their upcoming wedding. Their Maid of Honour, Dee, is still getting over being left at the altar seven years ago. Mandy and Rob are getting married today, even though their big white tent blew away in last night’s storm. And Jay just found out his entire catering staff is in jail! It’s all happening at the same time, in the same community hall kitchen, in the same small Canadian town. Stag and Doe offers a laugh-filled look at a distinctly rural prenuptial tradition … and shines a light on the nature of love, marriage, and weddings. Playwright Mark Crawford’s other works include Bed and Breakfast and The New Canadian Curling Club.
The Theatre Alberta library, 3rd Floor Percy Page Centre, 11759 Groat Road, has a copy of the Stag and Doe script available for loan to members.

We will then send you an audition information form, which will ask about your experience, schedule conflicts, experience, and other pertinent details. After a first reading in December, rehearsals will take place three times a week from January 5th to tech week, at days/times dependent on cast/team schedules. Rehearsals will include Zoom sessions as well as rehearsals at Walterdale and at an offsite location. You must be fully available during tech week (April 13 – 22, 2025) and performance run (April 23 – May 3, 2025). If you have any other questions about the production, email the director Louise Mallory at [email protected]
You do not need to prepare a monologue for this audition. Instead please come prepared to tell a funny story about something going wrong at a wedding. Auditions will also include readings of scenes from the play. We will send out sides ahead of time.
