Whether it’s a major capital city or a well-established beach getaway spot, there are plenty of places you could dub ‘go-to’ travel destinations. But sometimes it’s nice to shake things up a bit – and apparently, that’s exactly what travellers have been doing this year.
A new report by eDreams ODIGEO, which also revealed the most popular city breaks this year, has looked into all the places where interest surged in 2024 to create a list of the top growth destinations. Their research shows that travellers in Europe and the USA are keen to explore some pretty surprising, often long-haul spots.
Topping the list of the highest growth destination for 2024 was Kuala Lumpur, the lively capital city of Malaysia which saw searches increase by 49 percent this year, compared to January 1 to October 31, 2023. Headed here? Make sure you arrive hungry.
In second place it was Hurghada, a coastal city on the Red Sea in Egypt (which saw searches soar by 38 percent), and in third place it was Santiago de Chile, nestled amongst the Andes and Chile’s dramatic coastline (where searches grew by 36 percent).
