IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to establish its first voco hotel on Australia’s Sunshine Coast. The hotel is set to open in 2028 in collaboration with Felix Capital, a Sydney-based developer. The new voco Maroochydore Sunshine Coast will be located on Ocean Street, featuring 153 rooms.
The hotel is part of a mixed-use development project that aims to transform the city’s accommodation options. It will cater to both domestic and international tourists. This move comes as a response to the Sunshine Coast’s recent Temporary Local Planning Instrument proposal, which identified a need for more four- and five-star hotels in the region.
With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in sight, the new hotel aims to provide a wide range of accommodations to support the event and contribute to the region’s economy beyond 2032.
The facility will also feature an outdoor pool, spa, sauna, a 140-seat restaurant and a 65-seat lobby bar. Moreover, it will include over 510 sqm of space for corporate and private events, including a ballroom that can accommodate up to 250 people.
The mixed-use development will include a hotel and nine luxury residences on the top three levels, but these will not be part of the hotel’s operations.
The new hotel is part of IHG’s ongoing expansion into regional Australia and aligns with the voco brand’s commitment to providing a high-quality, individualized service. Since its inception in 2018, voco Hotels has properties in 18 countries, with Voco Maroochydore being the latest addition to IHG’s Premium portfolio.
This partnership marks the second collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital, following the announcement of the Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra, Sunshine Coast, in April 2024, which is scheduled to open in 2030.
