Have you heard of set-jetting? No, that’s not a typo: it’s a travel trend where people journey to destinations that have been featured in movies or TV shows, and it’s set to be bigger than ever in 2025.
And if you’re a James Bond fan in particular, listen up – the world’s steepest cable car has just opened in Switzerland, taking fearless passengers straight to the top of a revolving restaurant featured in the 1969 Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Look familiar? Piz Gloria was also the setting for Detour Discoteque, that super-remote clubnight that we covered last year.
But back to how you get there. Connecting the village of Stechelberg in the valley with Mürren, this brand-new 775-metre cable car has a gradient of 159.4 percent, making it the steepest in the world.
The cars attached to the cable hang from 11-metre long arms to cope with the incline, but despite its distance, it only takes four minutes, and can ferry up to 85 passengers at a time.
So when will you get to ride this thing? Well, now! The inaugural journey took place at the opening event on Friday December 13, and opened officially to passengers on Saturday December 14.
Did you see that these are the best places in the world to see the upcoming ‘once-in-a-decade’ Northern Lights?
