Garner took to Instagram on Dec. 23 to share her idea for a last-minute gift that she started on Mother’s Day for her mom that was “such a hit.”
She described it as being perfect for a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, really any loved one “who’s even a little bit in the next generation.”

Garner continued, describing a calendar, digital or analog, “it doesn’t matter,” and “you assign somebody every Sunday, or once a month.” Then, “when it’s your Sunday, you set aside time and you call Grandma.”
She stated that anyone can be included in the rotation, with the main goal being to have a steady stream of loved ones reaching out to the gift recipient. Garner shared that her mom “looks forward to it all week and she really looks forward to it on Sunday afternoons.”
Garner also said that the plan is customizable. “You can add visits in, a card in, or a letter. Just knowing that you have something special coming, and knowing as the grandkid or whatever, ‘it’s not my turn, I don’t have to worry.’ You don’t have that nagging guilt feeling when you aren’t communicating because you know when it is your turn you’re going to have a great conversation or you’ll write a really nice letter.”
The Love, Simon star dubbed it a “gift of connection” and fans were quick to praise her for the “beautiful idea.”
“As a grandma, I approve 😂❤️,” wrote one commenter, while another told Garner “You are a good human.”
“This is such a darling idea – as someone who lives by myself and hates imposing on others this is so so so so lovely,” wrote a third.
