The Toronto Maple Leafs are hosting an event that fans won’t want to miss.
On Monday, Jan. 27, the Leafs will hold their annual outdoor practice at the Prince of Wales Rink in Mimico. It is part of the organization’s commitment to celebrating local communities.
“The Outdoor Practice has become a special tradition for our team and fans, bringing us closer to the communities that support us so passionately,” said Leafs president Brendan Shanahan.
“There’s something magical about playing outdoors at local rinks, just as many of us did when we first fell in love with the game. For me, growing up in the neighbourhood, the Prince of Wales Rink — with its view of the Toronto skyline and the howling winds off Lake Ontario — holds a special place in my heart. I hope this weekend’s events inspire the same joy and inspiration for the next generation in this community.”
Outdoor rinks are a huge staple of Canadian hockey. Whether on a man-made surface, a lake or a pond, skating outside is a staple for many during the winter months. For Leafs fans, witnessing stars such as Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner do so during a practice is a dream come true.
The days leading up to the practice will be filled with various activities for Leafs fans to participate in. This will include meet-and-greets with Leafs alumni, as well as complimentary skate rentals to get on the ice and join in on the fun.
The event will begin on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m., and later that day will serve as a viewing party to watch the PWHL’s Toronto Sceptres take on the New York Sirens.
The Leafs practice is scheduled to get underway on Monday at 11 a.m. and will be followed up by a skate open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m.
