Everyone wants to relax when they’re on holiday – whether that’s by sending it at a new city’s nightclubs and bars or stretching out on a beach and properly switching off.
But if you really want to let your guard down, feeling safe is a necessity. That’s why, for LGBTQ+ travellers, it’s good to have a handle on the most accepting places to head.
And that’s what luggage storage platform Radical Storage have researched, by evaluating six different factors: the volume of queer bars and queer-friendly hotels, their average rating, the legal rights of LGBTQ+ locals and the public opinion of LGBTQ+ issues.
Topping the list is New York, which is no surprise given the city has one of the largest LGBTQ+ populations in the world and a thriving scene of queer bars and venues. The city was also the centre of the Stonewall riots – we took a first look before the dedicated museum’s opening last year.
In second place was LA (check out the city’s best queer bars here), and in third place it was London (see the UK capital’s best queer spots here).
These are the best cities for LGBTQ+ travellers
1. New York
2. Los Angeles
3. London
4. Bangkok
= Miami
= San Francisco
= Osaka
8. Washington
9. Mexico City
= Paris
