Popeyes has some fans drooling over a highly exclusive new “Championship Lineup” joining limited menus for one day only in celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans next month. However, some are suggesting others “boycott” the chain in response to the options.
Beloved foodfluencer Snackolator said the chicken joint has already “won the Fast Food Super Bowl” with a series of new menu offerings made in partnership with alcohol-brand Don Julio, hitting select Popeyes locations tomorrow, Jan. 31—and leaving just as quickly.
If you happen to be one of the lucky customers in the vicinity of New York’s Times Square or Madison Square Park locations, South Miami’s Red Rd. location, Philadelphia/Abington’s Old York Rd location, or Kansas City/Lenexa’s Quivira Rd location, you’ll be one of the few able to get your hands on the delectable new creations, which include the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich, the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Louisiana Garlic 3-Piece Wings, and a Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Flavored Lemonade Mocktail.
Folks near the flagship New Orleans location on Canal Street, however, will have through the Super Bowl on Feb. 9—or as long as supplies last—to try out the imbibed—if only by name—options, though many fans feel the lack of tequila is false advertising.

“Why is it a mock tail? 🙃,” one fan wanted to know of the lemonade, with another questioning, “There’s no liquor? Soooooooo whats the point of this 😳.”
“How imma drink a mocktail? Put that reposado in there 😒,” another demanded, with someone else declaring that the release “completely missed every mark im sorry.”
“man wtf boycott these guys for only 6 locations 😂,” someone else suggested, while fans from locales without the special menu offerings were “foaming out the mouth” over the tease.
The Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich features a chicken breast fillet marinated in reposado tequila before being fried in Popeyes’ crunchy buttermilk breading. It’s said to be topped with a tequila lime slaw, a spicy spread, and a barrel-cured pickle between a sweet and buttery concha roll. The wings appear to emulate the same flavor with a specialty sauce for dipping.
