A medical plane carrying a child, her mother and four crew members crashed into a neighborhood in Philadelphia Friday night, killing everyone on board and injuring more than a dozen people on the ground.
Saturday morning, officials said a seventh person – someone who was in a car when the crash happened – also died.
The crash happened along Cottman Avenue near Bustleton Avenue and the Roosevelt Mall shortly after 6 p.m., erupting into a huge fireball and engulfing nearby homes and cars in flames.

The crash occurred just two days after the deadliest U.S. air disaster in decades. On Wednesday night, an American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided midair with an Army helicopter carrying three soldiers over Washington, D.C. No one survived.

911 dispatchers were alerted to a plane crashing into a Philadelphia neighborhood and call out first responders to the scene.
What we know:
The jet was carrying a child patient, her mother, and four crew members.
All six people on board were from Mexico, according to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance spokesperson Shai Gold. The child had been receiving treatment in Philadelphia for a life-threatening condition and was being transported home to Mexico. The flight was scheduled to stop in Missouri before continuing to its final destination in Tijuana.

Debris from the northeast Philadelphia plane crash came through a window and hit a man eating in a diner, Steve Keeley reports.
Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia confirmed that they had treated the patient and that she was heading back to her home country.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the medical crew and pilots who were also lost in this tragic event – as well as all of the people who were affected on the ground – and we’re thankful to the first responders for their quick action,” the hospital said in a statement.

SKYFOX was over the scene in Northeast Philadelphia as sunrise shined new light on the aftermath of a medical transport plane that crashed into the neighborhood with six people on board.
Gold emphasized that the flight was operated by a highly trained crew, calling the crash both shocking and unexpected.
“All of the aircraft are maintained, not a penny is spared because we know our mission is so critical,” Gold told the Associated Press.
