A $100 million deal is apparently chump change for the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, as the controversial tech billionaire publicly brushed off the news that Ontario would cancel its massive Starlink contract.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Monday that the province would “rip up” its $100 million contract with Starlink, the satellite telecommunications subsidiary of the Elon Musk-owned SpaceX.
However, Musk didn’t appear too concerned about the massive loss of revenue. In a post on X, which Musk also owns, the increasingly political CEO and Donald Trump ally downplayed Ford’s move to scrap Ontario’s Starlink contract, simply writing, “Oh well.”

Ontario’s provincial government inked a high-profile deal with Starlink in November that would have connected up to 15,000 homes in rural and remote parts of the province with the high-speed satellite internet service.
The move to scrap the Starlink contract comes amid an escalation of the mounting trade war between Canada and the United States, with tariffs imposed by the Trump administration expected to slam into the Canadian economy with a devastating hit on Tuesday.
Doug Ford, who was a vocal supporter of Trump even going into the 2024 U.S. election, is now on a Canada-first stance as he campaigns to extend his premiership through a snap provincial election slated for later this month.
