The Asia Pacific region, excluding China, has seen an unprecedented increase in hotel construction projects, with a 5% year-on-year growth by Q4 2024, as reported by Lodging Econometrics.
Lodging Econometrics’ recent Construction Pipeline Trend Report reveals a record-high in hotel construction projects in the Asia Pacific region, excluding China (APEC), at the end of Q4 2024. The pipeline shows 2,085 projects, encompassing 412,358 rooms, a 5% year-over-year increase.
Projects under construction make up 41% of the total pipeline, with 848 projects and 196,408 rooms. Furthermore, projects scheduled to commence within the next year increased 7% to 367 projects, translating to 67,617 rooms. Early planning stage projects saw a 22% surge, with 870 in the pipeline, totaling 148,333 rooms.
India leads in construction pipelines, with 693 projects and 87,512 rooms, followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan. Among cities, Bangkok, Jakarta, Phuket, Melbourne, and Bengaluru have the most significant pipelines.
In 2024, the APEC region opened 291 new hotels, hosting 55,852 rooms. Predictions for 2025 and 2026 are 359 and 337 new hotels, respectively.
