While cities across Japan are known for brilliant street food and innovative restaurants, only one is known as the ‘kitchen of Japan’. That would be Osaka, and excitingly, Market has opened its doors there today.
Market’s aim is always to bring all the very best of a city’s food scene to one sociable, lively space, and the mission in Japan’s second city is no different.
Located in the South Building of Grand Green Osaka, this Market is the first in Asia to launch and has combined a menu of the city’s and the wider Kansai’s regions most promising chefs, be them established innovators or talented newcomers.

It will be open from 11am to 11pm – that’s time for brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks and entertainment (thanks to the venue’s packed calendar of DJs, family activities and live music) – and there’s a whopping 17 kitchens to choose from, along with two bars and a vast communal dining area.
So, which of Osaka’s brilliant restaurants are getting involved? Well, NIKUTOIEBA MATSUDA, a Nara favourite famous for its wagyu dishes has bagged a spot, as has Gion Tokuya, which is a dreamy dessert restaurant serving up Kyoto’s famous shaved ice.
Critters Burger is a popular local spot serving up (you guessed it) succulent burgers, and Saboten Taqueria is a brilliant Mexican spot churning out lip-smacking tacos.
If that hasn’t got you drooling, you can feast your eyes on pictures of the Market and all the amazing plates flying out of those kitchens on Market Osaka’s Instagram page.
