Plugged In’s Christian Movie Madness is nearing its conclusion and we only have four films left in contention for the title of the Greatest Christian Movie of All Time: Facing the Giants, The Passion of the Christ, Ben-Hur and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

#12 Facing the Giants vs. #1 The Passion of the Christ
The “Famous Four” is made up of mostly 1-seeds, as you might expect, but we’ve also been treated to a Cinderella run for the ages. Facing the Giants, a humble 12-seed in our bracket, didn’t blink as it barreled through the competition. The film upset The Shack, War Room (a fellow Kendrick Brothers’ production) and The Jesus Film. It even toppled Voyage of the Dawn Treader, one of the mighty Narnia movies which, up until the last round, had been collectively undefeated. At this point, there’s no doubting that Facing the Giants can go all the way, but it’ll have to take down a few more giants to do so.
Speaking of which …
The Passion of the Christ was a 1-seed in our bracket and acted like it. The 2004 film waxed Seven Days in Utopia before clearing The Case for Christ, Jesus Revolution and Prince Caspian with at least 60% of the vote in each round to make it to the Famous Four. It’s a profound depiction of Jesus’ Passion and clearly has resonance with voters. I get it: I saw The Passion of the Christ in theaters when I was 13 years old, and I bawled my eyes out afterward. It was the first time I had ever seen such an unflinching depiction of Jesus’ sacrifice and, in turn, His love. It has stuck with me ever since.
#1 Ben-Hur (1959) vs. #1 The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Just like the famous chariot race depicted in the film, Ben-Hur’s last matchup was incredibly close to the very end. But the Old Hollywood epic survived its challenge and moved on to the Famous Four. To get here, it had to top Kirk Cameron in Left Behind (2000), Woodlawn and the Bethany Hamilton biopic Soul Surfer before its barnburner with Courageous—besting the Kendrick Brothers’ drama by less than 10 votes! Despite being released more than 60 years ago, Ben-Hur still has a place in the hearts and minds of Christian film lovers.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is our bracket’s resident steamroller, and even that may be underselling it. The C.S. Lewis adaptation has absolutely crushed the competition, taking an average of 84% of the votes in its matchups. It’s never even dipped under 75%, dominating China Cry, Paul, Apostle of Christ, God’s Not Dead and I Can Only Imagine in short order to reach our last four films. Even though it lost its fellow Narnia running mates in the last round, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe hasn’t slowed down one bit. So, will Aslan and Co. continue to power through to the championship?
