The final night of Knockout rounds for Season 27 of The Voice are Monday night, and the sad news for the contestants is that Kelsea Ballerini is the only coach left with a Steal. So when she pairs up two of her country greats – Hailey Wright and Jaelen Johnston – whoever she doesn’t pick will be eliminated for sure. Adam Levine, John Legend and Michael Bublé have already used their one Steal.
The songs for the Knockouts are selected by the artists, so it affords them an opportunity to show their coaches and America what kind of music career they are looking forward to creating.
In this sneak peek of the Monday night Knockout between Hailey and Jaelen, who Kelsea also paired in the Battles with Jaelen winning and her Saving Hailey, Hailey chooses to sing the yodel-filled “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” by Patsy Montana, and Jaelen selects “Dial Drunk” by Noah Kahan.

“Hailey, your voice is so stylized I love that old, cool thing,” Michael told her. “I miss Reba. When someone like you walks up on stage and it’s real, I just love it. Jaelen, every time I talk to you, I try to use my deepest voice. You look the loosest that I’ve seen you. You have such a distinct voice. But I have to say for me, the winner of this Knockout is Hailey.”

John was a little more circumspect in picking a winner. He said, “One of the interesting things about this particular Knockout is it’s a rematch from the Battles. It’s so interesting that Kelsea is forcing this difficult decision on herself once again. Yodeling is not easy. The intervals that somebody has to sing without jumping all over the pitch. To watch you be able to do that so well, Hailey, I was so impressed. And then, Jaelen, you came out here with a lot of charisma, and your voice sounded great. Both of them did an excellent job.”

Adam didn’t realize that this Knockout was a rematch, and he found it a crazy thing for Kelsea to do.

“Jaelen, you’re always on a base level of good. I’m a fan. I turned around for you. I would have chosen you in the Battles. But then Hailey gets Saved, comes out here, and does what she did. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘You guys are going best of seven.’ It’s one on one. With Hailey, I want to see more because, in a way, I feel this is her first real shot of her best. You guys are both great. Jaelen, you know I love you, but I’m going with Hailey today.”

And then, it was time for their coach to weigh in.
“I don’t think I’ve seen a jump as big from rehearsal to stage as you both just did,” Kelsea said. “Jaelen, I loved that you picked ‘Dial Drunk,’ because I wanted to see you do something a little more upbeat. You moved so much, I’m so proud of you. You were boot-scootin’ all over the stage. Hailey, you were saying you were a little nervous, but this is the time to put your personality out there, ‘We’re yodeling. Let’s go girls.’ I sense sometimes when I’m nervous, I almost have to become a character of myself, and it helps my nerves. I feel like you did that.”
The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC when Kelsea will reveal her decision. Streams next-day on Peacock.
