If you’ve been patiently waiting for consistent patio-worthy weather in southern Ontario, you’re not alone — and this week is set to deliver in a bunch of areas. But for folks in the GTA? Don’t put away that light jacket just yet.
Spring has been a bit of a tease so far this year, with warm weather popping in and out as it’s not quite sure it wants to commit just yet. And while southwestern Ontario is about to get a sweet streak of sunshine and 20 C temps mid-to-late week, the GTA isn’t exactly invited to the party.
According to the latest forecast from The Weather Network (TWN), cities like Windsor, London, and Kitchener are looking at a solid stretch of daytime highs in the 20s, with Windsor even seeing a daytime high of 25 C on Thursday.
But the GTA, especially areas hugging Lake Ontario, will stay cooler thanks to — you guessed it — those stubborn lake breezes.
Right now, Lake Ontario is sitting at a frigid 2 C, and it’s doing a great job of chilling the air above it. With winds coming in from the east, that icy lake air is being pushed inland, especially around the lakeshore. So while Windsor’s basking in the warmth, places like Hamilton and parts of western Toronto will stay cooler. In some lakeshore spots, the temperatures might not even crack double digits.
TWN reports that there’s a chance of warmer air on Thursday if the wind shifts, but it comes with a side of unsettled weather. A couple of showers or even a rogue thunderstorm could roll through Thursday and Friday — but don’t worry, it won’t be a total washout.
That’s because looking ahead to next week, there’s a chance for a more widespread warm-up (fingers crossed). But, as always, lakeshore spots might still get the short end of the stick thanks to those chilly Great Lakes.
Hang tight — May is just around the corner, and we might finally flip the switch to warmer temperatures. Just don’t forget a hoodie for those lakeside walks!
