It’s time to plan your next outdoor adventure. Though we’re only a few weeks away from its opening, Chutes Provincial Park is one to add to your bucket list. This stunning natural oasis is home to cascading waterfalls and beautiful scenery.
Chutes Provincial Park officially opens for the season on May 16, 2025. So you have more than enough time to plan your trip, considering it’s about a five-hour drive north of Toronto. Thankfully, there are camping opportunities here — car camping, group camping and radio-free camping. You’ll have to reserve your camping slot online sooner rather than later — it can fill up quickly.
Exploring Chutes Provincial Park
Though the park has a few trails to embark on, the area has more to explore. The Cup and Saucer Trail on Manitoulin Island, Willisville Mountain in the La Cloche Range near Espanola, and the many trails at Mississagi Provincial Park near Elliott Lake. This is about an hour northeast of Chutes, according to Ontario Parks.
Per the site, it offers amazing views and a rich history, but what makes it stand out is that it is home to a ton of waterfalls. And we mean a ton.
Chasing waterfalls
In fact, there are “waterfalls everywhere” at Chutes Provincial Park, according to the Parks Blog.

For a stunning view, head along one of the many trails, especially the Falls Lookout, which is a wide platform right at the lip of the main falls.
“Even in summer when the river’s flow is much less than in spring, the power of water shows its strength, cascading right in front of you,” shares Ontario Parks.
And if you follow the Twin Bridges Trail upstream along the Aux Sables, you’ll be treated to views of rapids, cascades, and waterfalls.
Follow the Twin Bridges Trail to several viewpoints and lookouts where you can soak up the sights and sounds of nature.
Though it’s only spring, when the weather gets warmer, you can enjoy the park’s beach. It is tucked in a bend in the river below the falls.
