Banana chocolate chip muffins sold at Maxi have been recalled due to metal pieces

12 May 20252 Mins Read

Metal in your breakfast? Yeah, that’s a problem.

If banana chocolate chip muffins are part of your snack rotation, you’ll want to check your pantry before taking your next bite

On Monday, Health Canada issued a recall for Paneriso brand Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins due to the potential presence of metal fragments in the product. The muffins were sold across Canada (including at Maxi and Provigo locations in Quebec) and could pose a risk if consumed.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the recall affects the 372 g package of muffins with the UPC 0 55685 22002 1 and the code 092. The product was manufactured by Canbrands Specialty Foods Inc. and is part of a Class 2 food recall, which means the risk is considered moderate, but still serious enough to warrant action.

No injuries or incidents have been reported so far, but the CFIA says you should not eat, sell, serve, or distribute the affected product under any circumstances. Even if the muffins look and smell fine, they should be thrown away or returned to the store where they were purchased.

You can see the exact product listing (which is now listed as “out of stock”) on Maxi’s website.

Those who may have already purchased the muffins should take the following precautions:

If you’ve got a box of these muffins at home, toss them or bring them back to Maxi for a refund. You can also contact the CFIA directly at 1-800-442-2342 or by email at [email protected] for more details.
