The Technical Director – Season & Rentals is a full-time supervisory position that works collaboratively and cross-departmentally to maintain the overall functionality of Fringe Theatre’s performance spaces and facilities.

Supervising the Resident Technicians and casual technical roster, the Technical Director is responsible for administration, production planning, scheduling, and facilitation of all technical elements for Season productions, rentals, and Fringe Theatre produced events.

This role also supports the Director of Operations in creating and implementing maintenance schedules for the building, equipment, and other operational needs of the facilities. This role prioritizes the health and safety of Fringe Theatre’s team and provides exceptional care for our clients.

You are organized and have strong administration skills. You have experience managing a busy, multi-venue performing arts space that serves the complex needs of a wide variety of clients. You’re passionate about theatre and making the performing arts accessible for everyone to enjoy! You love providing radical customer care to clients, technical troubleshooting, supporting technicians, and maintaining gear and multi-use spaces. You are a team player who takes initiative, is an excellent communicator, and can delegate effectively. You are a creative problem solver who loves to collaborate with your teammates to find the best possible solution to complex issues. You are willing to work hard and love supporting live events through an administrative lens. You are a leader who supports their staff with patience and care while offering learning opportunities that build skill. You bring a collaborative, open, and positive energy to everything you do.

Job Description:
Manage hiring, scheduling, training, and oversight of all technical staff including Resident Technicians and casual technical staff;
Develop, maintain, and improve training supports and manuals;
Manage communications within the Production Department;
Meet with external clients, lead building tours and document production meetings to successfully execute facility rentals and meet technical requirements;
Identify and coordinate room setup and teardown, equipment, and/or staffing needs with clients;
Respond to any patron and/or client concerns with care;
Support the Engagement and Finance departments by allocating and documenting labour and equipment costs via Fringe’s booking software;
Oversee and approve staff timesheets for payroll purposes;
Uphold all safety policies and procedures and contribute to creating and implementing a safety management system;
Assess and maintain all production areas and equipment in the Arts Barns;
Assist the Director of Operations in the creation and management of a facility and equipment maintenance plan;
Assist the Director of Operations in the creation and management of a capital plan;
Assist the Director of Operations in the day-to-day upkeep of the building;
Work collaboratively with Engagement, Programming, Volunteer, and Executive departments to plan and execute all Season and rental events; and
Uphold and champion Fringe’s Safer Spaces, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility programs.

NOTE: The Technical Director – Season & Rentals is a full-time position that requires some evening and weekend work. The ideal candidate will bring flexibility, passion, kindness, and care to everything they do.
