Iconic '90s Band's Rare Performance Has Fans Saying the Same Thing

16 May 20252 Mins Read

Live performances from iconic alternative rock band Pavement are few and far between — and late night show appearances from the group are even more rare — so fans freaked out when the musicians reunited to play The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week.

Led by singer Stephen Malkmus, the band took the Late Show stage to play their hit song “Harness Your Hopes” in their first performance since the New York Film Festival last fall, according to Brooklyn Vegan.

Fans on YouTube couldn’t get over seeing the cult-favorite band back together again.

“Stephen Malkmus’ voice is the definition of nostalgia,” one person gushed, with another adding, “Malkmus is still a total babe! Forever crushing on him.”

Someone else shared a special memory involving the group, writing, “I remember in 1992 when a friend worked in an indie record store in Virginia and told me to check out Pavement and I got Slanted and Enchanted and became an instant fan. Now I see Bob N. [Bob Nastanovich] wearing an eyeglasses lanyard, and I have never felt so old in my entire life.”

“Pavement is the most GenX band of all time, which also then means they’re the coolest, but they’re not, because GenX, which is so slacker it’s even more cool. Just saying,” declared yet another commenter.

More good news for fans hoping to see more of Pavement in the near future: Pavements, the long-awaited documentary film about the band, is playing in select cities now (with a wider release scheduled for May 30).
