The TTC is shutting down parts of the subway this Victoria Day long weekend, Life in canada

16 May 20254 Mins Read

If you’re heading out in Toronto this Victoria Day weekend, you’ll want to keep an eye on your transit plans.

The TTC is rolling out several service changes, including subway closures, detours, and holiday adjustments that could impact your journey.

Whether you’re watching the fireworks, heading downtown, going shopping, or just trying to get around the city this weekend, check your route ahead of time.

Here are some closures and diversions you need to consider this Victoria Day long weekend.

Subway closure on Line 2

There will be no subway service on Line 2 between Woodbine and Broadview stations on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, due to planned track work.

While Chester Station will be fully closed, all other stations in the area will remain open for PRESTO access and surface connections.

The TTC will run frequent shuttle buses to cover the route, and additional Wheel-Trans service will be available for those who need it.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs force a Game 7 on Sunday, the TTC says it’ll adjust the closure to make sure fans can get to and from Scotiabank Arena without any significant delays.

Victoria Day service changes

Planning on checking out the Victoria Day fireworks at Ashbridges Bay Park?

The TTC is boosting service on Line 2 and the 22 Coxwell, 92 Woodbine South, and 501 Queen routes to help get people to the lakefront.

The 22 Coxwell will be extended to Woodbine Beach via Coxwell Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard. TTC staff will help direct passengers to the right boarding areas.

Some nearby roads may be closed, and the festivities could detour specific routes.

Also, the TTC will run on a Sunday schedule starting at 6 a.m. on Victoria Day. Routes that don’t usually run on Sundays will also be closed that day.

504 King streetcar route change

Starting on Friday, May 16, the TTC is making a tweak to the 504 King streetcar route to help improve service during the King and Church intersection closure.

The 504 will now divert both ways via Shaw Street instead of Spadina Avenue on the west end of the diversion. The switch aims to ease congestion, especially around tricky downtown left turns.

Meanwhile, the 503 Kingston Road streetcar will continue its current detour via Spadina and Queen, heading west along King to the Dufferin Loop.

Other service changes from last weekend are staying the same, for now.

The TTC says it’s monitoring traffic and service in real time and could make further adjustments if needed.

New signage and stop pole notices are coming, but everything will be installed in a few days.

Construction detours

If you’re taking the bus, expect these detours around ongoing city construction.

The 102 Markham Road, 134 Progress, 902 Markham Express, and 903 Kennedy-Scarborough Express are detouring around roadwork at Centennial College from May 17 to June 1. Buses will stop at temporary platforms on Centennial Roadway.

Due to city work at Culford Road and George Anderson Drive, the 59 Maple Leaf will be diverted via Amesbury Drive until May 23.

Because of road repaving, the 96 Wilson, 996 Wilson Express, 927 Highway 27 Express, and 336 Finch West Night service will be rerouted through Humber College Loop via Arboretum Boulevard and Silver Bell Lane until May 25.

The TTC has a lot going on this weekend, and it’s always better to be prepared than wait at the wrong stop.

It’s not just the TTC that has closures this weekend. Here’s a full list of what’s open and closed in Toronto on Victoria Day.
