'7th Heaven' Reboot Is in the Works Thanks to Original Cast Member

19 May 20252 Mins Read

Get ready for some teachable moments, because 7th Heaven is potentially heading back to TV screens!

Variety is reporting that a reboot of the classic family-friendly series, which followed the Reverend Camden and his squad of wholesome kids, is currently in production at CBS studios.

But here’s the best part: According to Variety, Jessica Biel, who played basketball star Mary Camden in the original series, will executive produce the series under her Iron Ocean banner along with Michelle Purple. They’ll work alongside DeVon Franklin, who will executive produce via Franklin Entertainment and his overall deal with CBS Studios, the piece added.

But if you’re expecting the same squad of Camden family faces to return to your TV screen, guess again. The Variety piece says that the new show would focus on a diverse family, and that none of the original cast members would appear.

Produced by legendary TV man Aaron Spelling, 7th Heaven debuted on the WB in 1996 and ran for 11 seasons. Looking back on the era, Biel told InStyle in a new interview that the group functioned on set as if they were a real family.

“What I remember most, probably, is the camaraderie of all the kids,” Biel explained, noting that she particularly felt like a sister to co-star Beverly Mitchell, with whom she frequently butted heads, but remains close.

While it was known as a beacon of wholesomeness at the time, the show’s lasting memory was affected after the series ended in 2007. In 2014, a recording leaked that revealed Stephen Collins, who played Reverend Eric Camden, the moral center of the show, admitting to inappropriate sexual contact with three underage girls.
