In a significant move towards sustainable hospitality, the Radisson Hotel Group has launched its first two hotels that have achieved Verified Net Zero status, meeting the 2040 criteria of the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels. The hotels in Oslo and Manchester are implementing measures to eliminate Scope 1 & 2 emissions, substantially decrease Scope 3 emissions, per the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol, and offset the remaining carbon footprint using Nature Based Solutions. This initiative, verified by third party, TÜV Rheinland, is a first of its kind.

Transition to Verified Net Zero Hotels

The existing Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre and Park Inn by Radisson Oslo City Centre are being renovated into Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre and Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, respectively. Both hotels will become verified Net Zero properties: Manchester in May 2025 and Oslo in July 2025.

Comprehensive Net Zero Actions

The Verified Net Zero program encompasses the carbon footprint from energy use (Scopes 1 & 2) and the hotel’s operational and supply chain footprint (Scope 3). Measures include using 100% renewable energy, obtained through hotel electrification and/or purchasing 100% renewable energy for all hotel functions. Moreover, Radisson Hotel Group has re-evaluated its supply chains with a focus on Food & Beverage and other emission sources, such as hotel-related transportation, to minimize emissions.

Compensating Emissions with Nature Based Carbon Credits

Any remaining emissions are offset using Nature Based carbon credits from carbon removal in partnership with Agreena, the largest soil carbon program in Europe, supporting over 2,300 farmers to regenerate more than 4.5 million hectares of European farmland.

Net Zero Experience for Guests

Staying at a Verified Net Zero property allows guests to participate in a sustainability-focused movement. These properties operate with 100% renewable energy, offer low-carbon menus, and endeavor to be minimal-waste hotels. These initiatives give guests the unique experience of staying in a hotel with a net zero carbon footprint.

Renewable Energy and Low Carbon Menus

Verified Net Zero hotels are powered by 100% renewable energy sources, eliminating reliance on environmentally harmful fossil fuels. Radisson Hotel Group has also partnered with Klimato, a Swedish firm, to develop low-carbon menus by analyzing the entire food offering and curating recipes to lower their overall carbon footprint.

Minimizing Waste

New measures based on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle principles have been implemented to minimize waste. These include using food waste management software, offering unused ingredients on the social innovation platform Too Good to Go, recycling coffee pods in partnership with Nespresso, providing glass water bottles in guest and conference rooms, offering recycling bins in all guestrooms and main public areas, conducting waste audits to ensure a high accuracy of recycling throughout the hotel, reducing paper use with the Stay E-concierge app, using 100% bulk bathroom amenities and recycling the packaging with Clean the World, and adopting plastic-free dry amenities.

Radisson Hotel Group is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and believes starting with existing buildings is critical. These first two Verified Net Zero hotels set the stage for the future of sustainable hospitality.
