A red weather warning was just issued for Toronto and it’s about to go from bad to worse, Life in canada

22 May 20252 Mins Read

Toronto’s weather continues to take a turn for the worse, as a red weather warning was issued on Thursday afternoon.

Wednesday evening’s downpour has proven not just an ordinary spring shower as Environment Canada has released a bleak warning.

Shortly after noon on Thursday, May 22, the department issued a red weather rainfall warning for the city, forecasting 50 to 60 mm of rainfall throughout the afternoon.

Nearly 35 mm of rain fell on Thursday morning, with a further 20 mm predicted to fall in areas east of the Don Valley Parkway before the rain turns showers in the evening.

There is also a risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

They say to watch for possible flooding near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Following last week’s warm conditions, Toronto’s weather has done a 180. The Weather Network (TWN) has noted that this week’s weather was colder than December last year.

On December 29, 2024, Toronto Pearson Airport saw a temperature of 10.3 C, compared to 10 C on Friday.

TWN also pointed out that daytime highs of around 10 C between Wednesday, May 21, and Friday, May 23, will be the coldest in May in Toronto since 1967.

Don’t give up hope just yet though — TWN predicts that Toronto’s weather will get warmer as we come into June.

But for now, the rain jacket and umbrella will replace the t-shirt, shorts, sunscreen and parasol. We hope that doesn’t last too long!
