‘Becoming Led Zeppellin’ Documentary Sets Netflix Streaming Debut

Becoming Led Zeppelin New On Netflix

Becoming Led Zeppelin – Picture: Sony Pictures Classic

The Netflix US slate isn’t quite finalized, as today we’ve learned that the recently released music doc Becoming Led Zeppelin will be making its streaming video on demand debut via Netflix, courtesy of the first window deal that the streamer holds with Sony Pictures and its various subsidaries. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming docs.

Released exclusively in IMAX theaters on February 14th, the movie grossed a little over $10.4M in the US alone and $12.8M globally, the 2-hour long doc charts the rise of the iconic band from their post-war childhoods and 1960s music scene beginnings to their explosive success in 1969, using unseen concert footage and personal archives, with narration by the surviving members and archival interviews from the late John Bonham. The band is best known for hits like Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Since I’ve Been Loving You, and Immigrant Song.

Filmmaker Bernard MacMahon is behind the new documentary, his first significant film project outside of his collaborations with the BBC and PBS on American Epic. Led Zeppelin was first screened to audiences in 2021, before Sony Pictures came on board to distribute it in 2024.

Netflix announced the June 2025 slate last week, although the movie was absent. That’s often the case, given that Netflix doesn’t always provide the most comprehensive look ahead at the coming month. That’s where we step in! We’ll soon add it to our extensive breakdown of the month’s new arrivals.

Now, we can reveal that the doc is set to debut on Netflix starting on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, and remain on Netflix for 18 months. As it’s part of the first window deal with Sony Pictures, it’s only heading to the United States for now, although most regions around the world pick up their slate of titles within 2-4 years after its release.

It’s been a busy start to the year for Sony Pictures Classics movies on Netflix. The Outrun was the first to drop this year in February, with I’m Still Here and The Room Next Door also having been released. The Penguin Lessons starring Steve Coogan is expected next in July or August. On Swift Horses starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, and Will Poulter will also hit sometime this Summer.

On the Sony Pictures side, Paddington in Peru is the latest movie to land on the streamer with other 2025 releases set to include Until Dawn a little later in the year alongside the new Karate Kid: Legends movie and more.
