Here is when Edmonton’s outdoor pools and spray parks open for the season

27 May 20252 Mins Read

The sun is high, and with temperatures on the rise, it’s only a matter of time until we’re all looking to make a splash. Luckily, if you live in the city, it won’t be long before Edmonton-owned outdoor pools and spray parks are, once again, the place to beat the heat with friends and family.

Outdoor pools

Already breaking a sweat? Grab a towel and some sunscreen, because the Wîhkwêntôwin Outdoor Pool Open (formerly Oliver) is already open for the season.

If you’d like to check out the 30-metre swimming hole, the pool has lockers and change rooms, as well as a concession stand.

In addition to this, there is also a waterslide, sundeck, and picnic tables where you can enjoy a bite to eat.

If, however, Wîhkwêntôwin is not in your neighbourhood and you’d like somewhere a little closer to home, don’t fret.

According to the city, Fred Broadstock and the Queen Elizabeth pool will open on June 7, followed by Mill Creek and Borden Natural Pool on June 21.

Please note that, as Canada’s first natural swimming pool, Borden does require a little more preparation if you’ve never been.

Here, the water relies on an organic filtering system to clean the pool, so you’ll have to be a little more mindful when checking it out.

Street shoes, pets, and glass containers are not allowed, and everyone must wear proper attire. Also, if you’re bringing food, it must be unopened before visiting and eaten away from the water.

Spray Parks

As for Edmonton’s spray parks?

These have already begun opening in phases, with the hope that all locations are open by June 6.

The city has a map where you can watch them open in real-time, and that can be viewed on their website.

Hazeldean Park and Jackie Parker Park are currently under repair, but all others will be back in action shortly.

Until then, get ready, get set.

Summer is just around the corner, and it’s going to be an action-packed season.

Enjoy!
