‘Blue Box’ Netflix Anime Renewed for a Second Season

28 May 20252 Mins Read

After a successful first season, it comes as no surprise that the high-school sports romance anime, Blue Box, has been renewed for a second season. Production is underway, and we expect the series to return sometime in the second half of 2026.

Blue Box is a Japanese Netflix Original anime series and the adaptation of Kouji Miura’s manga Ao no Hako. Telecom Animation Film is the studio behind the production of the anime, with Yūichirō Yano as the writer and director.

Taiki Inomata, a freshman of Eimei Senior High, is a member of the high school badminton team, is in love with Chinatsu Kano, a second-year and the ace of the girls’ basketball team.

Blue Box Renewed for Season 2

The renewal for Blue Box was announced at the end of March, following the 25th and final episode of the first season’s broadcast.

The official YouTube channel and other social media for TMS Anime announced the news with a video promoting the great news.

How much of the manga has the anime covered so far?

At the time of writing, there are 196 published chapters of the Blue Box manga. The 25 anime episodes from the first season covered 79 manga chapters (volumes 1-9).

How much of the manga will season 2 cover?

If the second season covers a similar number of chapters and volumes as the first season, then we would expect season 2 to end with the events of Volume 18, which covers chapters 154-162.

We’ll speculate that the second season will end with the events of chapter 161. Manga readers will understand why we’ve made this prediction.

When can we expect to see Blue Box season 2 on Netflix?

This is heavily reliant on the length of time it takes to produce each season of the anime, and considering production times for any anime series are extensive, we aren’t expecting to see any further episodes of Blue Box on Netflix in 2025.

A more realistic release date for Blue Box season 2 is in the second half of 2026.

For now, we await official confirmation from TMS Anime and Netflix.
