Netflix Shows Still Waiting for Renewal in 2025 (And Those We Think Will Be Canceled)

28 May 20258 Mins Read

Pictures: Netflix

As we hit the midway point of 2025, it’s time to take stock of all the shows we’re currently awaiting renewal news (or cancellation news) on. A few big swings for Netflix in early 2025 are awaiting renewals, but a few won’t be coming.

We last updated our “awaiting renewal” post in January 2025, and some of the titles in that post are still awaiting official renewal, but we were on the money with a lot of our calls. As predicted, a few titles did receive renewals, including The Lincoln Lawyer, Heartstopper (sort of), Lupin, and The Empress, all of which were renewed. On our 50/50 list, the Australian series Territory eventually did get canceled, although Gangs of Galicia was renewed.

However, as we’ve discovered over the years, the longer you’ve to wait, the less likely a renewal will ever occur. Many Netflix shows also never receive the satisfaction of being publicly announced as canceled, a phenomenon we refer to as being “ghost canceled,” whereby people attached to the show have been informed but either can’t or won’t tell the public.

While this list examines what’s currently in limbo, we also track all the renewals in our list here and update it every month.

Please note: This list is largely speculative on our part, based on available information such as viewership numbers, some insider sources, and, in the case of a few titles below, the amount of time we’ve heard nothing. As our friend, the Entertainment Strategy Guy, says, no news in Hollywood is often bad news.

Likely Renewals

  • Fake Profile (Season 3) – Good performance and some reporting that suggests this Colombian drama series is definitely returning for a new season. We haven’t been able to confirm, however.
  • Go Ahead, Brother (Season 2) – This Polish series passed our test of spending more than 30 days in its home territories’ top 10s (67 in total), meaning we suspect this will get renewed, although it’s now been quite some time since its October 2024 debut.
  • Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (Season 4) – Based on how previous DreamWorks titles have worked, how the story is progressing, and what’s been said about the future of the show, we think it’s an easy bet we’ll get more Dino goodness in the future.
  • One Piece (Season 3) – Multiple cast members have already spoken about the fact that season 3 will be getting underway with production in 2025 so it seems all that’s left to do is confirm it to the world!
  • The Åre Murders (Season 2) – Given strong performance around the world and being one of the biggest international hits of 2025, we’re predicting we see a return of some form for this Swedish crime drama series.

  • Wednesday (Season 3) – Another one with a lot of behind-the-scenes rumors is Wednesday, which is all but confirmed to be returning with season 2, directly tying into a future season, we’re told.

50/50 Renewals

  • Bad Thoughts (Season 2) – This dark comedy, created and starring Tom Segura, was pretty experimental and ultimately didn’t land that well with audiences, but given the budget, it’s not inconceivable that this returns.
  • Black Mirror (Season 7) – Viewership did drop a bit on Black Mirror, but the nature of this show allows it to take several years off and come back with fresh new stories.
  • Iron Reign (Season 3) – It’s been a while since this Spanish crime drama series debuted in March 2024, and despite featuring in the top 10s for over 40 days in Spain, there’s been no news on the future. If we haven’t heard by the end of the year, it’s likely over.
  • Love, Death & Robots (Volume 5) – After a 50% drop in viewership on volume 4 over volume 3 and a significant drop in viewer reviews, it doesn’t paint a great picture, but the beauty of this show is that in its format, it can be turned around rather quickly. Fingers crossed, we haven’t seen the last of this pioneering series.

  • Ransom Canyon (Season 2) – I’m gutted that I can’t include this in the expected renewal columns. Still, performance fell a bit short of an instant renewal, and the most recent comments from one of the cast members didn’t exactly fill fans with confidence. Evidence that early development has taken place in season 2, but do some of the internal metrics suggest it’s worth keeping going? We’ll find out eventually.

Shows Expected To Be Canceled or Won’t Be Returning

  • Bet (Season 2) – It’s only been out for two weeks at the time of publishing, but its numbers simply don’t lie; the Kakegurui adaptation is going to have a very hard time getting a renewal.
  • Bodkin (Season 2) – Debuting in May 2024, this thriller-comedy has now been waiting for an official renewal for a year. All have moved onto new projects and given the performance, it’s time to call time.
  • Detective Forst (Season 2) – This Polish series failed to hit the 30-day mark in the top 10s in its home country and given the amount of time, we’re highly doubtful this will be back.
  • Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities – We didn’t include this list the last time, but GDT has suggested in a recent panel for Love, Death and Robots that he’s in no rush to return to an anthology show again anytime soon. While he’s working on a slew of projects for Netflix, we’re now doubtful Cabinet of Curiosities will ever be revisited.
  • Kleo (Season 3) – This German series returned in July 2024 and suffered a massive drop in viewership. While Netflix Germany is usually pretty quick on renewals, that hasn’t been the case here.
  • No Good Deed – The creator of Dead to Me returned with her first major new show in late 2024, and now, given the amount of time elapsed and its performance, we’re not expecting it to return.
PulsePulse

  • PULSE (Season 2) – Overshadowed by The Pitt from HBO, the performance really suffered on PULSE, and reviews weren’t exactly shining either. Hard to see how this comes back but we’ll see.
  • The Residence (Season 2) – Although it was originally thought to be a limited series, it was touted that it could come back for a second season by one of the trades, but given the performance, it’s hard to see this being picked up for another round.
  • The Snow Girl (Season 3) – A massive performance drop for this Spanish thriller series means a return looks unlikely.
  • The Watcher (Season 2) – Although this show received a season 2 renewal, we’re now adding it to the expected cancellations list after conducting further research earlier this year. Ryan Murphy being with Disney and only actively working on Monster season 3, in addition to the cast now tied up with other projects, makes this nearly impossible to get back on the road.
  • Other Animated Series – I won’t go too much into depth with this list as we recently covered how much of Netflix’s adult animated slate is currently in limbo, but I think it’s safe to say that many of the shows here won’t be returning due to the nature of how animation production works and performance. Titles in our list included:
    • Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
    • Castlevania: Nocturne (Note: We suggested that a new spin-off could come instead)
    • Exploding Kittens
    • Good Times
    • Jentry Chau vs the Underworld
    • Mulligan
    • Skull Island
    • Terminator Zero
    • Twilight of the Gods

Other Shows Still Awaiting Renewals

In the case of the below titles, often from Netflix’s international teams, we don’t hold a particularly strong opinion on their futures. That said, all have premiered their most recent seasons within the last two years.

  • Baby Fever (Season 3) – Danish
  • Bandidos (Season 3) – Mexican
  • Bet Your Life (Season 2) – Turkish
  • Dabba Cartel (Season 2) – Indian
  • Echoes of the Past (Season 2) – Egyptian
  • Everything Calls for Salvation (Season 3) – Italian
  • Football Parents (Season 2) – Dutch
  • Franklin (Season 2) – Lebanese
  • Gyeongseong Creature (Season 3) – Korean
  • Hellbound (Season 2) – Korean
  • House of Ninjas (Season 2) – Japanese
  • Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (Season 2) – Indian
  • Kübra (Season 3) – Turkish
  • Lovers Anonymous (Season 2) – Turkish
  • Nothing to See Here (Season 3) – Mexican
  • Sisters’ Feud (Season 2) – Mexican
  • Real Men (Season 2) – Italian
  • Represent (Season 3) – French
  • Snakes and Ladders (Season 2) – Mexican
  • Subteran (Season 2) – Romanian
  • Terror Tuesday: Extreme (Season 2) – Thai
  • The Hooligan (Season 2) – Polish
  • The Manny (Season 3) – Mexican
  • The Secret of the River (Season 2) – Mexican
  • Tomorrow and I (Season 2) – Thai
  • Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper (Season 2) – Indian
  • We Were Kings (Season 2) – Mexican
  • Welcome to the Family (Season 2) – Mexican

Those are our predictions for Netflix’s current slate – did we miss any titles? What shows do you think will get renewed or will be canceled? Let us know in the comments down below. If you have any intel on any of the shows mentioned above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch: [email protected].
