Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (WWPT) is a professional, Edmonton-based theatre dedicated to the development, production, promotion, and presentation of new Canadian playwrights and their plays. Celebrating its 46th Season, WWPT is pushing boundaries through innovative approaches to live theatre accessibility, exciting and engaging theatre programming, and world premieres of some of Canada’s finest playwrights. We’re looking for professionals who are passionate about the arts, theatre, playwrights, and having positive social impact to join our governance board.

As a Board Member, you will assist with policy creation, financial oversight, fundraising, and overall strategic direction. You will review and act upon committee recommendations brought to the board and provide governance, financial oversight, and support to the Artistic Director and General Manager. We are actively recruiting for our Executive Team (Vice President, Secretary), as well as seeking members who may be interested in filling executive roles in the future. If you are looking for an opportunity to make an impact in the arts, this is the opportunity for you!

Desired Skills: Skills or experience in any of the following areas would be considered assets but are not required to apply: Financial management (Accounting, budgeting, fundraising, investment); Legal expertise (Corporate governance, compliance); Strategic planning (Visioning, goal setting, market analysis); Human resources (Employee relations, recruitment, training); Communication and marketing (Public relations, social media, fundraising campaigns); Technology (Website development, cybersecurity, data analysis); Program implementation (Knowledge of the organization’s specific programs and service)

Commitment: Successful candidates will be required to attend regular board and committee meetings on respective bi-monthly schedules (a minimum of 6 board & 6 committee meetings per year). Board Members are expected to serve on a minimum of one committee. Board members are asked to serve a minimum two year commitment. Estimated monthly time commitment is 4-6 hours a month.
