Did you know that you can take a two-hour sunset cruise across Howe Sound from West Vancouver? Well, now you do, and if that’s not enough to pique your interest, picture this: you’re lounging on an intimate, 40-foot boat, wind in your hair, toasting the breathtaking view with a glass of bubbly.
Sea Dragon Charters brings this vision to life, offering passengers the chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty around them during the most picturesque time of day.
On your journey, you’re likely to meet passing seals, bald eagles, seabirds, and the occasional dolphin or whale, according to Sea Dragon, which operates rain or shine.
Traversing through Howe Sound, the cruise is priced at $109.95 per person and includes a complimentary glass of bubbly.
Journey through North America’s southernmost fjord
As the southernmost fjord in North America, Howe Sound is truly a bucket-list worthy destination, and its proximity to Vancouver only makes it that much more appealing. Situated between West Van and the famed Sunshine Coast, the fjord network has a rich history dating back to the Squamish and Shishalh communities, who have travelled through the sound for thousands of years.
Consisting of several islands and mountains, the sound was later observed by Spanish explorers in 1791, who named it Boca del Carmelo. A year later, Captain George Vancouver entered the sound and named it after Admiral Earl Howe.
In addition to sunset cruises, Sea Dragon offers morning boat cruises and kayak trips, snorkel, kayak, and seal adventures, scuba diving charters, and night dives.
Those who prefer to book a private cruise can request one online, depending on availability.
Sunset cruises depart from the dock in Horseshoe Bay at 7 p.m., returning by 9 p.m.
No car? No problem. The Express Bus 257 goes directly to and from Horseshoe Bay, stopping near the Expedition Centre and dock. Hop on the bus from downtown Vancouver at Granville Street, or anywhere else along its route.
Don’t forget your camera, bathing suit, and towel!
